Anyone TDI'd a mk1..?

Can i just say what a fantastic lump the PD is, i`ve owned a 01 115 PD covered 80,000 with no problems and in its later life with me it was revo`d putting out just under 150 bhp, Now owned by my father-in-law.

I now have a 53 130 PD owned for 1 day before i got that Revo`d estimated at 175 bhp,

I actually got thrown off the Rallye Nutters Forum for mentioning putting a diesel lump in a Rallye 8 years ago.  :dontknow:

It will be worth it and a worthy conversion me thinks  :D Good luck

that videos done using a cheapo resistor i bet. as it makes it over fuel.

my modded one gives out hardly any smoke as when they are tuned properly the air fuel ratio is optermised and black smoking only comes from over fueling.

there is loaads you can do to them. a 150pd chipped will give well over 180 easily!!! and thats before you start with larger injectors and turbos etc.

my 115pd is now on 187k and it mint!! its just had a tuning box fitted and now goes eeevvveeennn faster! the only issue was a weeping head gasket, a weekends work taking it easy and ?150 and its now done 8k since oct, inc towing and not a problem!

the worrying thing is i recon my estate is faster mid range and in gears than my mk1 gti

Daily - 05 plate B6 A4 Avant S Line, with 19s for the summer.. wifes car - Rare Seat Exeo ST Sport 170 Tech
Weekend - MK2 20vt monster - Plus a mk1 caddy I am fixing for my bro

Yes - the resistor mod is popular on PD engines. It fools the ECU into thinking the engine is under greater load than reality and therefore delivers more fuel. I did this to my old Mk4 Tdi and it worked (but smoked at low revs !). Pretty sure the car in the vid is a non-pd though. PD and non-PD Tdi's are very different in terms of fuel delivery. Non-PD is via a pump driven by the engine, whereas the PD delivers fuel to each cylinder electronically via Ecu stuff (tech term there !). Smokey TDI's are generally non-PD's with bigger injector nozzles. From the factory they'll lean out at high revs (but produce no smoke), whereas bigger nozzles can satisfy the demand at high revs but over-fuel at low revs (= smoke - unburned fuel)
You can always tell that the negative comments come from those who haven't driven a modern Tdi can't you ?!?

the missis has a golf mk4 gti 150 pd and that thing shifts :D

lovely to drive loads of torque, she can get 50 mpg out of it too, although when i drive it we get a little bit less

I have no intrest and know nothing about diesels but reading certain magazines dont you need special mountings to avoid shaking the car to bits.

my 1.9 aaz has poly mounts on and you do get a bit of vibration at idle and the dash (everything) rattles. but as soon as your driving the idle vibrations do go away.

hello!

You get bad vibrations in a petrol engine car if you have solid engine mounts.

In have a Audi A4 1.9 tdi 130 which has been chipped to 150ish
the fuel economy on a run is about 64ish to gallon if the trip computer is to be believed the power is fantastic the only problem is you have to change gear quick to get the most out of it.
i must admit i have thought of dropping one of these in to the cabby as in a straight sprint up to 70 the A4 leaves my GTI for dead
what got me thinking is if it will push a Heavy A4 like that what will it do in a little mk1????

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

Wow this thread took off over the weekend.

Ok well, prices, you guys will enjoy this, I wont mention the company but:

Front disc conversion + the lump (with no garenteed millage as yet) + parts + labour

With 3 months engine warrenty and 1 month on work.

?5,300.

I think you can guess my reaction.

So over the weekend while I helped my mate sort his car, we had a day long brainstorm and we came up with a more realistic price and a plan.

I'm probably gonna buy a a donor car so i have everything.

Btw, if I'm doing this, the engine will be a GT TDi out of a mk4 PD with less than 50k.

Great thing is, I've had a quote of the insurance - ?1250 a year.

Obvioulsy includes the lump, being a 150bhp, dash, front and rear brake conversions, and coilovers which I am realonably satisfied with.

So I plan to drive it through the summer strip it just before the weather gets crap and then hopefully have it done early next year.

It's just waiting for the ideal donor car now.

As a bit of an update.

I scrapped the idea for well, the next 2 years!

So I've spent about 1/8 of it and my cabby is having a reconed engine + gearbox, 1.8 8v GTi.

I wouldn't even pass the name on of that company for you if I'd be honest, you don't want to pay that sort of money and only that warrenty.

I did get a quote for ?9k but that was a mint engine, with a years or 12k mile warrenty, including custom exhaust, brake conversions, ect ect - EVERYTHING!

I don't know about the 20vT but it sounds about right for the 16V.
