Garage hurt my car..

Errrrr ive just got my car back from a garage from getting the clutch done and theyve broken both the door handles on the out side.

Pretty annoyed about it so asked him while i was there about it and he was like well, it should be sound, went home to then realise the passenger door handles broken too, nearly hanging off….

What am i able to do about this as ive jsut rang him up and he was like "yea well the only reason wed have used them is to get in the car so" i laughed and said thats quite obvious but im obviously a bit annoyed due to them both being in perfect working order when i sent it in.I even asked him how do i lock my car tonight etc and he said youl have to bring it up here but we wont be able to do anything about it now.

I think its a joke, considering my clutch cost me 125 labour and 65 part…… which is also a very funny joke.

Its only a 1.3 and had already had another quote for ?110 including part.

And does that mean id be able to claim/ask for new handles etc?

As im not sure what i can do, or wether i need proof as ive jsut spent all the money i have on fixing my car up and cat afford to be buying new ones cus a garage i sent my car to broke them…

Do you own your own garage yourself then?

Don't take the car back, or pay for the clutch job, until you're happy the handles are fixed. They'll soon sort it out. Unless…they were broken and hanging off when you took it in????

aha nah cause they wernt.

And i had already got it home before i realised Both were broken.

Noticed the drivers side and asked him about it he basically blanked me…

I fixed the drivers side but the passenger sides still not working and the bit were the screw in the door card screws on is snapped inside the handle…

So ill have to find a new one etc..

Tbh i do want smoothed door handles but its still the fact that i sent it in with both door handles in working order.. and got it back with both broken…

Unfortunately without evidence (or without the power which comes from withholding payment) you're going to have an uphill struggle proving it was them who damaged your car, rather that yourself at an earlier or later date.

If it were me, I'd chuck a set of new handles on it and never go back to that garage again.  Although if it were me, I'd have done the clutch myself for live fifty quid.

Yeah, technically you do have a claim against it but I'd suggest it isn't worth persuing it as it'll take ages and might fail leaving you with costs…

But tbh, ima leave it till i smooth my doors, planning on doing them soon so..

"smooth the doors" - you don't want to do that! - you might as well get an escort or something!!!!!

Haha, nah it will look nice..

Its not getting wrecked, im a classic dub head, trust me, ive loved  them since i was like 6 when i saw a corrado, my parents always owned them and have always thought golfs are easily better than most porsches so..

Basically it will look fully nice, youl beleive me when its done, maybe not at the moment but…

And id like an mk2 escort, could make them sick, plus drift so…

All good.

im not saying it looks better, jsut my style, i dont like door handles on any car..

I don't know if I'd want to have a car with smoothed doors. The problem is, you need to decide if you're going to have a hidden door release mechanism (for emergencies), or trust the central locking/door opening solenoid to always work. The former means your car is insecure, the latter means if your battery goes flat or there's an electrical issue, you'd be forced to break into the car.

"But tbh, ima leave it till i smooth my doors, planning on doing them soon so.." - Just a thought but if you were to smooth the doors how would you get in? - maybe through the window??

you must have an accessible point of access in case of emergency, so any Tom Dick or Harry can get in your car by pressing a button..
