If you had the choice...

Right, most of us want a car with sound mechanicals AND good bodywork but supposing you had to choose?

Would you rather have a really smart looking Mk1 with fresh as the day it left the show room paint work and seats that look like they've never been sat in but the most wheezy gutless engine that couldn't pull the skin of a rice pudding?

OR

With the fittest engine you've ever driven in it, pulls like a train, corners like it's on rails and stops like it's on an anchor chain but it looks like it's been sat in a barn for five years and the interior looks like a tramp lived in it?

Personally I'd rather have a quick and scruffy Mk1 'coz they are the most fun to drive and if they ever get scatched in a car park, it's not the end of the world.  I'd rather have something I could drive hard without worrying about breakng it then something that would look smart in the line up at a show.  How about you?

I'd go smart and gutless, at least then the bodywork is out of the hands of the rust demon  :? .

Fast and scruffy - once you're sitting in the car, you can't really see the outside bodywork anyway. (With the proviso that its safe enough, and no structural bodywork is corroded to excess, etc).

As a daily driver a scruffy looking one but mechanical bits are easier and cheaper to replace than restoring bodywork

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

there really is no choice is there? saying that, there are alot of people that buy a 1.1 fiesta say, and spend fortunes trying to make it look super fast. i just can't understand why they don't get an rs in the first place.?! it must surely work out cheaper.

class before fast

Its got to look good for me!

Lets be honest though most GTI's go like hot snot without doing anything to them.

Trouble with looking good is you dont want to drive it fast cos you know its gonna get stone chipped!

Millenium Falcon for me really.
I just don't want it too rotten, but would love a 16v already installed.
Still looking……….

I want my car to drive well first, so that is what i'm doing, The only exterior thing i'm doing is polishing it, which doesn't cost much!!

Engine and running come first, when they are done, then bodywork.. So it would have be be the Millenium falcon for me.
