new Volkswagen website

Hello again Mk1 crew,

I return to you with more VW website news.

VW have launched their new website which has been worked on for the past 18 months by a very large team. It has some of the most advanced and progressive car-configuration features available online.
It can be found at www.volkswagen.co.uk .

It would be great if you could take a look at the site, have a play with the features and post up any thoughts. As before, we'll pass any comments back to Volkswagen UK

If you'd like any additional information about the site or about Volkswagen UK then please feel free to ask within this thread or message me privately. I can't guarantee that I'll have the answers but I'm more than happy to try and find out for you.

Thanks in advance

Chris

I noticed the new website when in work the other day. Looks ok…

Far too slow and takes too long to load for my liking (and I'm on 8mb business bb) also I'm not a fan of the % loaded bars but that's just down to my taste

TBH I prefer the old site I'm not one for the flash stuff

Chris, like the new site, good clean layout and easy to use. Liked the interactive timeline, would have hoped to see more info though. All in all enjoyed the 'visit' although not a lot for us 'boys' on here.

i'm not overly impressed with that timeline;

1974 - production of golf starts - pic of a bbs kitted campaign (1983)

1975 - golf gti - pic of a small bumpered mk2 gti (1984-)

1990 - 1,000,000th golf gti - pic of a mk3 gti (1993-)

1990 - polo g40 - pic of a polo 6n (1994-)

1991 - 321,000 cabriolets - pic of a mk3 cabriolet (1993-)

not being picky or owt, but these are totally wrong  :dontknow:

1983 Polo CL - daily

1984 Golf G60 Syncro - sold

1989 Rallye Golf - sold

1992 Corrado G60 - crushed

1989 Polo C - chopped and crushed

1991 309 Style - crushed

If you go back to the site it doesn't seem to cache anything. So back to the loading data, loading stylesheets, loading media, loading configuration….

I hate pouring bad feedback on someone's hard work but this is just too slow. I'm 8MB BB too.

It should at least cache so it doesn't need to reload EVERYTHING on page refresh…

Sorry Chris Outside…

Edit - And My Volkswagen section has no newer VW's to pick!

No Passat or Golfy C for me to find!

wasn't that for the dealers to get used to the new chassis design before the mainstream golf?

Yes, it was also used to trial the deletion of the 1000 mile post-delivery service schedule.

Quite a few errors. Concept behind the Volkswagen was not Porsche but Hitler. 1975 Polo shows a pic of a Mk2 Passat.

I think they are trying to cover up hitlers involvement, even tho they are right in saying Ferdinand Porsche created it as hitler asked him for a concept… hitlers idea, Porsches creation!!!

Adolph Hitler had a keen interest in cars even though he did not drive. In 1933, he asked Ferdinand Porsche to make changes to his original 1931 design to make it more suited for the working man. Hans Ledwinka discussed his ideas with Ferdinand Porsche who used many Tatra design features in the 1938 Kdf-Wagen, later known as the VW K?fer - or Beetle. On June 22nd, 1934 Dr. Ferdinand Porsche agrees the design the "Peoples Car" for Hitler.

great comments…. thanks very much people.

I've already passed back what you've said to the team responsible, so you should see improvements over time.

Any other comments most welcome - however frank they may be  :D

Chris, did you receive any feedback from VW on last time you posted, on the following issues:

- parts discount for the club
- online ordering
- reintroduction of obselete parts and parts for SA Mk1s

?

Hi Paul,

Well at that level of detail, no. However all those kind of comments went on to generate a conversation about ways in which VW can talk to their customers at a more granular level, forums like this being a perfect example. I know are some ideas which are being considered quite seriously, (one in fact came from this very forum), but I can't say too much now as nothing is set in stone. If the sort of ideas we're talking about come to pass then the sort of details you're talking about can start to be addressed.

Sorry, that's probably not the answer you wanted to hear, but as with any big ship, changing trajectory can take a very long time - however that's not to say it doesn't happen.

Nah its fine, I know you're just involved in the web site design part of things, and as a separate company to VW. I was just asking on the off-chance.

Hopefully this time they'll at least correct the errors we've pointed out.
