My Barn find, pic page 2 LOL

Well, ok so not a barn find as such, more of a you can just see the car poking out from under a bush find.

Any way, went and had a look at a mk1 last night that my dad has known about for years, well its been under the same bush for at least 10 years.

Turns out its close to 15 years, a white 1.8 gti non sun roof on a Y plate.

at first glimpse it seemed like WTF did i bother, the front wing had almost gone from all the rust.

However, opening the door (all windows were full of thick green muck) what do i find….

A mint condition passanger seat, oh wait rears are also mint!!! driver side is also almost mint 8O  apart from very slight bolster ware. :dontknow: i almost shed a tear!

Dash is mint, even the vent holes were perfect!! door cards perfect, centre consol is mint with vdo's 8O  :D bone dry carpets,!!!!!!

So had a bit more of a poke around as best i could due to being attacked by brambles.

Set of P-slots with metal caps, full trim set in tact, bbs front spoiler (that was on the floor covered in 2 ft of leaves.
Full arch plastics non faded? bumpers were min, grille mint!! i cant believe my luck.

its almost like some one parked there pride and joy and forgot about it.

And even more shocking is the doors are rust free?

So im a happy bunny having paid ?ahem for it.

Also it had a plaque on the slam panel i could only make out a bit of it, and it said bosch engineering? more strange is the engine is missing (in his shed) as he said it didnt look like the original so he removed it to fit a standard 1800. Didnt see the lump as it was dark  :(

So going to drag the golf out this week end, should be fun after 15 years of sleep and strip all the bits off the shell to use on my one.

So sorry to bore you all but im a bit chuffed!

Fair play, I never find anything like that - well apart from a Morris Oxford!

My Barn Find

Congrats I'm glad you've had some luck with this!

I only found a "shed" inside my barn!  However it has yielded some parts.

thats the best finds, they look like real dogs but have a few jewels inside, i picked up a pure rotter for a very small amount of cash and when i got it home and started going through the boxes i found a mint wolfsburg steeringwheel with horn push lugs entact, it made my day :)

LOL was going to start the removal of the car today but couldnt get hold of the guy till 4, so have to wait till next sat before i can get pics/parts/try to remove from the bush 8O

I doubt its a 16s, at they were all LHD?? or did i dream that?

Prob just a stock gti, tho the metal plate on the slam panel needs some more investigation!!

Well this is the beast LOL

Apart from the wing the rest of the car is in very good condition.

Found in the boot a chrome rim grill, a pair of series 1 lights and fuse box, a zender rear spoiler, and a few other  series 1 bits and bobs.

LOL Yes tax disc was out in 1994 so 14 years in the same place.

It really looks worse than it is. Both doors seem rust free, sills are solid even the rear arch's feel ok?

Got the interior out today, needs a good clean but im very happy.

Will go up and get the dash and the rest of the interior in the week, then it will be time to drag the beast out of her grave. Only problem is there is a van parked in front of it that seems to have been there as long as the golf!
