With a little help from me

I think you're onto a winner anyway Rich. I knew someone a few years ago that purchased scrap cars and broke them, he did not specialise in any model, started selling off the shelf and now has a turnover of 20 million p/a.

Rich, the name fits ehh?

Yep Labour claimed to have found a magically cure to the boom 'n bust economy that we've had since WW2……

Think the wheel's just about to drop off and then the downturn will expose the collapse in manufacturering thats been masked by the boom in construction/property which itself will then collapse when the buy-to-let brigade bailout when 800,000 Poles go home becasue….theres no work…because theres a recession… the sprial can go down as well as up.

Can't the goverment just borrow more money? lol

With what happened to house prices since about 1999 it was pretty inevitable that it was all going to burst.  Stupid banks, stupid government…

How can a nation which doesn't actually MAKE anything epect money to go anywhere other than out of the country?!

I agree with that , landlords are putting all sorts of sweeteners in to property's to attract customers [free wireless broadband for instance] as the market here has become very competitive .

hi there, i saw you at the west yorks meet,, i work in construction, im a joiner. i make bars and fittings etc for resturaunts like la tasca, tiger tiger franky n bennies, nandos and loads more lol,

quiet periods do my head in and hurt my bank balance dearly, with the build up to xmas the overtime was on giving me a big wage but now it has died off. when we went back to work we were stood at our benches doing nothing, well i was scotching  but its slowly starting to pick up again,, its like the work load is seasonal,

The contracts managers say that more firms are spending over there budget, because inflation and everything. so they cant afford to launch a new resturaunt meaning not much work for us, :dontknow:

moral of the story is,  the government are a set of greedy t*^ts and it riles me how much we have to pay in taxes and everything else let alone having to deal with a poor wage and cutting back, :banghead:

In my opinion its really easy to talk yourself into a recession and I reckon the press / the people are having a right good stab at it right now.

My business is going pretty well and we are planning some diversification this year. I've not held back in spending but have put a few quid away as well. I think its important for people to "talk it up" and breed confidence. Its a chicken and egg situation to some extend but I would never be anything else other than confident of us having a strong economy regardless and make sure I spread the positive word at any time I possibly can.

Doom and gloom, breeds doom and gloom in my opinion - right now, whoever I speak to the message is universal:

Things are going great and we are going to have a superb year!!!

Diversification spreads the risk, so that can't be bad! but at the same time it lowers upside to a certain degree.

What is your line of business if you don't mind me asking?

I've taken your advise and spent the last few minuets cracking jokes and saying how good life is and how busy I'm going too be to my bank balance, just checked it and it still looks like poo.
so tomorrow I'm taking my chq book out for lunch and take it to the pleasure beach at Blackpool in a hope it cheers it up as we wouldn't like to be down in the mouth and gloomy with it would I!!.
Will let you know if things improve.

Is that sense of sarcasm i see there…

ui agree with both tho, if everyone talks about the recession and everyone keeps aying its coming then its bound to happen, if everyone thinks its coming, then they'll hold back on their spending and not book me in to do their bathroom or book you in to do any building works..

If everyone remains positive then good things should come of it..
Ok, it's goingt o be the rich that want the work doing as they know work is thin for us manual labour folk, so they feel we'll be more competitive on price etc.

So as much as I agree with you andy, I also agree with Gordon..

I'm off out today taking my cheque book for lunch, being nice to it..
I'm hoping tho if i dont keep telling its there's a recession coming, then hopefuly I'll be using it more..

I think that we only have ourselves to blame, all you hear is people racking up ?????'s on credit cards and loans, its a buy now pay later society that has realised it can't afford to pay later! I do loads of hours at work and am saving for a deposit on a house, so from my point of view I hope the market does slow - though cant see it crashing. If their were more houses on the market instead of being rented out by buy-to-letters then we could all afford a place!

Added to which, the floodgates have been opened by the Government, so we have millions more to house, feed and look after, so lets add some more to fuel tax and cost me more to get to work!

Why drop interest rates? surely the country is all 'borrowed out', I think we need a quiet period to sort ourselves out, and reward those of us who havent mortgaged ourselves up to the hilt and have spent the last few years saving up some cash. With more reposessions predicted than ever before why are we encouraging more spending?

Have I got it all wrong? Because to be fair I'm not an economist!

Sounds spot on to me Larry, but I only managed to pass my Economics exam at school but cheating, so I'm the opposite of an expert!

I was waiting on the bank book reply, and to a certain extent I deserved it!

Being frank, my bank balance isn't huge either, but my point wasn't to bury your head in the sand (no Blackpool beach pun intended!) and pretend things are rosey when they are dire. My point was that we can talk ourselves into a recession and the more we (the press mainly) advertise that the entire world is about to end, the more people hold back and stop the economy turning. My point was to try and be as positive as you can, which I appreciate can be hard at times, especially when every paper you read is so negative, but if the British people can put a brave face on it, then surely that's better than all saying how we are going to be stuffed in 6-9 months time???  :dontknow:

I don't see how predicting a townturn could be anything else other than a bad move :dontknow:

I'm no expert, just an opinion!

Not sure what the answer is matey, all I know is I earn slightly over average, can't afford to buy a house a flat or a garden shed (or rather I dont want to pay ?1000 a month for 40 years on a mortgage), I sit in traffic for hours unless I get to work at 6am, murders a plenty, fuel costs are ridiculous, we are all fat, getting pregnant at 14 and failing our exams.

Waht a whinger eh??? I went travelling 2 years ago round the world and I missed England like crazy, now 2 years later I'm starting to think that unless your minted, there are many nicer places to live.

Although I'd like to be positive it seems that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and those in the middle get sucked dry by both groups (and not in a good way). What will make us all want to spend our money again? Discounts for mk1 owners on everything I say!

Straying from the recession point slightly I know. Tomorrow is Friday and the mk1 will be restored soon (preferable to buying a house also) and Capello is the man to bring us glory ;-) so it can't all be bad!

Depends on where the leads come from mate, I'm sure bob the plumber fitting bathroosm for ?500 is busy, i specialise in higher end ones and the shop where I get 90% of my work form are drying up, they've changed a lot, so its also now to the fact that i need to look for work instead of relying on recomendations…
s'pose its my fault for having too many eggs in one basket, but just had another job confirmed so its all good

Ps, I also supply them at trade prices as well if its of any use..
