old vs young and our cars
Hope you had a good run out, will and try and make the next one if not working.
Oh, I turned 37 on the 17th 8O
Does that make me old????
Nahhhh
Just been through alot :
'O' levels
Mexico '86 (Cheating Corned Beef muncher uch: )
Italia '90 (Bloody germans  , nice cars though )
Etc, etc, etc
Still young at heart tho' :y:
When I was 18 I had an 'S' reg Vauxhall Shuvit, pale blue and rust, you kids never had it so good
I no longer have the Mk1!! I now whizz round in a Black 1990 3dr Mk2 GTi 8v but the roof doesn't fold back when the sun shines

oh, oh right is actually really retro, i thought u were going to put big alloys on it mate…
only lowered 40mm and although it would look cooler lower, for me its just not practical or affordable atm, running on a set of p slots not some 10 inch wide rims that wont do alot..
i wanted it retro themed and put together properly instead of some rusty heap with 10 inch wide shiny rims that skimms the weeds…
its an obvious fashion, i prefer to think of my car (a plate) as an attempt to go for the stylign of a swallowtail/early gti but i dnt have the money to have one of those…just the wheels i want to change to give it that right look.
thanks

Although mine hasn't had much done to it as such, just some ?40 BBS's from a mate and a ?10 backbox from the scrappy [which was a bugger to fit].
At the moment it looks like a proper daily driver but it scrubs up well

Suppose the difference is, i drive a MK1 because it reminds me of the best time in my life- the 1980's, not because i want to be part of a "scene".
I can handle the p*** taking about owning a "floppy" because i owned my first tintop in 1982 whilst serving in the Fatherland during the "cold war", thats years before most of you were born.
And the fact that i can chuckle to myself knowing that i pay less than 120 quid a year fully comp on a GTI.
By the the time you new skool are my age, Global warming will be so bad you will all be riding bicycles anyway………… enjoy.

I shall post pics of my babies when i get home, but i have a mk3 golf, which is low on deep dish rh classic alloys, and powerflow exhaust system, and a mk1 golf with bbs rm alloys, and still being restored, but a 1.8gti, with high lift cam, stainless manifold and exhaust system, audi throttle body, roll cage, alloy rear strut brace, omp front strut brace, loads of chrome/ powder coated bits on engine, all underneath powdercoated, coilies and is stripped ready for respray. Will need to wait a few months to see that one tho

i still might stick coilovers on it and p-slots.

a "certain" fuel manufacturer is working on a synthetic petrol with very low emissions for the UK Armed Forces, this will run diesel engines, but there is also an on going research and development team working on a refining process so it can run petrol engines, so im not too worried about that

Is this that thing they were on about, where they recycled old tryres and turned them into fuel? Saw this on the news, and it worked too

anyway, ive had loads of golfs over the 6 years ive been driving, a little example of how my taste has changed….
my car when i was 18:
my car that i have now im age 23:
therefore i have voted for the oldies. i think alot of the youngsters now try and do the 'old skool' look on their mk2 1.3 cl's without actually knowing what 'old skool' is and have seen lots of mk3 golfs/polos with moon rims on! i just like simple subtle mods but stick with the original look.

That or a very well payed job for a young bod.
BBS splits at 19 - Lucky c   t
And tbh, i do look up to the older peoples cars but you think you created evry look that exists in the dubbing world.
M7R your mk1 looks fully nice, nice no bumper too.
My insurance on a gti is fully expensive, also have 3 points which adds a bit more on, live in a city too, another wounder as it gives me a fair bit extra to pay, more likely to get damaged etc.
And tbh im not going to tell insurance about a new engine for about a year as theyd rape my money straigt away.
And ill also be one of the young who make the next generation love the mk1.

Some people on here must either live in the country side so insurance isnt too much of a killer, or have rich parents.
