Modded Cabby

Have you had a hatchback for an extended period though?

No, no, no but I've had similar sized hatchbacks in the past and saloons and of course the access is easier in a hatchback, but the day that matters over and above my sense of fun I'll start peeing in my pants, carrying a stick and wearing Hush Puppies.

I have had 3 tin tops and 2 cabs…..neither have a cavernous boot…..come to that nor did my Rallye have much of a boot due to the rear diff taking 1/2 the floor

the only vw i have a had with any largeying capacity is the mk3……..I dont do luggage or passengers normally so i dont mind :D

Mk1`s arent meant for shopping trips!!!! or school runs! get a honda for that sort of tom foolery

Oh, that poor, poor VW. What did he do to it? It's lost its shapely charm.

As for impractical, I don't think I've ever driven such a small car around with so much space, especially since it's a soft top with a back seat! I fitted my 175cm snowboard bag in, which is how I discovered the detachable parcel shelf. Also handy for fitting stuff in, such as luggage on the back seat, by putting the roof down, adding luggage, and putting the roof back up again.

So much more practical than I ever expected!

….but yeah, I wish the boot door was larger (then I wouldn't need to put the luggage in the back seat…)

shame they didnt copy the mini with the MK! Cabby tailgate and have it hinged fromthe bottom, would have been so much better, easier to get stuff in and if its over loaded, just tie it it on and away you go…

anyone know if its been done as a conversion??

I've thought about this. Obviously it would take some cutting and welding, but it shouldn't be too much of a challenge to do. It would save getting poked in the eye, in the dark, by the corner of the boot when you're loading up with shopping!
