expensive ebay item

I'd be more worried about the V5 not being in his name. In theory, its not his to sell, you'd need at least the signature from the previous owner, to be sure you will be able to register it under your own name once bought.

Do you? I got a V5 when I bought my 1.1 a couple of years ago, by simply going into a DVLA office and paying for one. I'd sent the change of ownership off, but it got lost in the post and simply went to the DVLA gave them reg etc, paid ?18 and got the V5 in my name.

Cheers

Yes in theory, but in practice you can obtain the V5 by filling in a V62 and sending off ?25.

The law states that the registered keeper must inform DVLA of any changes in keepersor you could be fines ?1000 plus if the new keeper breaks the law ie speeding though a Gatso then you get the fine and penalty points.

but

price is quite high, no picture of the engine bay, and if im not mistaken if it is a campaign, shouldnt it have the petrol cap where the plastic part covers the lock :dontknow:

what do you think of it?

Yes it does have now.. I had lost the original cap and bought a replacement of Crazy Quiff last year.

Thats because I was holding out because a respected member of this forum - no names mentioned - was toying with the idea of having a silver BBS Mk1 GTI….      and I was giving him first refusal on the car.

Hang on Hang on, this golf was for sale last year I believe and was sold this could be a scam the seller is using the same pitures as the last seller.

The advert started with I bought this of the lady owner but have not registered it in my name yet.

Its not a scam and you are right, these are the photos from when I bought it …. given the weather I just used the old pics instead of getting it wet trying to take new photos of it.   Rest assured, the car still looks the same… its even still got silver paintwork on it  8O  8O

Hate the rear rubber spoiler, XR3 looked cool with a rubber spoiler not a golf, just my opinion.

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

I don't get it - "DONT BID IF YOU INTEND TO MODIFY THE CAR" - its already modified!!!!

No it isn't… well only sort of as it was a period piece at the time.  What I mean is that I don;t want a chav sticking OZ wheels on it, dropping a 16v lump in it etc….

  the comment about modding it is a little cheeky i must say….if your crossing someones palm with that much if i wanna take it banger racing as the new keeper who is gonna stop me

The add has been put in the for sale section on here now too…and with my eagle eye i noticed it has a 1600 version back box on it too…….so its not 100% standard anyway

Nice car though, but too much $ for an everyday practical car for me…its too nice to leave in car parks at shopping centres!!!

True.. but believe me, if I had a suspicion when the buyer comes to pick up I really would not sell it to him because at the moment its my car and I will do everything in my power to make sure it goes to the right person, even if that means I sell it for less. I thought people on this forum would understand that?! Anyway, there are plenty of other Mk1's out there that can be butchered - sorry I mean modified - that are as good as this example.  But why would anyone want to ruin a car as rare as this one?  :dontknow:

But surely its up to the next owner what they do with their car - you can't sell a car with conditions attached!

No but thats not the same as someone coming to me and saying great I going to do  x,y,z to the car because I would smile and say bye.    Of course, having said that, you are right in that if they decide to butcher it afterwards, there's not much I can do, but hey at least I tried to give it to a good home.

once the cash has changed hands they can turn it into a milk float if you obviously love the car don't sell it…..

Anyone handy at p-shopping, a mk1 golf milkfloat would be cool.

Wait, isnt that a caddy? :)

the problem could be that the milk might turn to cream with all the high speed cornering :D

Its the age-old mod vs stock debate. I could ask a similar question - what's the point of buying this car, then not caning it around the local country lanes, up and down the motorway, and everywhere else for that matter - since that's what cars, and especially the Golf GTI, is designed for.

And another thing regarding the values of Campaigns vs non-Campaigns. I did a bit of research into it and the ONLY actual difference in them is the S707 option code. Every 'Campaign' option was available on a non-Campaign, or another non GTI model. And in any case, does the shape of the door pins really affect a car's value? So technically, a Campaign cannot claim to be better than a non-Campaign. The fact that the prices are higher is a moot point anyway, the true enthusiast would probably seek a non-sunroof model, which of course cannot be a Campaign.

The prices (if indeed its true) are higher because of a 'myth' which was generated by the Campaign register, in the days gone by when there were many times more abundent than they are now. They sought to differentiate themselves from other GTI owners, but with much more freely available information, the specialness of the Campaign has proven to be somewhat hollow. If anything, Campaigns have done as much to damage the values of non-Campaigns, as bolster their own values.
