Mk2 GTI parts would be good too :D

Our core aim is parts and services for MK1 Golfs and I really do not want to stray from that - The MK1 Golf only approach is what makes us unique in this country.

Having said that we can do any VW part through our VWDirect service and have shipped a fair bit of MK2 and 3 stuff.

Cheers

Rich

Maybe there is value in expanding a little bit though, for example instead of strictly Mk1s, you could expand to obselete watercooled VWs. There's an awful lot of Passats, Sciroccos, Polos, etc who don't have an equivalent parts supplier and these cars are declining in numbers.

Branching out into repairs and servicing would be the next logical stop, but there's an awful lot of garages out there, and also there's a lot of VW specialists too. So there's already plenty of choice. And really, you can only compete in your local area, it would be difficult to do it nationally. Also, things get a bit more complicated too, when it comes to working on cars. There's the fact that you're liable for the work and the subsequent losses too, and if you're fitting secondhand parts to cars, how do you really know they're not nearly end-of-life too? etc etc. Its what's put me off setting up properly so far.

Cheers Rob - thanks for doing your bit

At least the kids can eat over Christmas now    I of course sustain myself by eating the underseal from Mk1's and drinking the contents of the washer bottles.

sorry to say this mate but you will struggle selling car parts if you have big over heads. Its ok if you sell parts from home as you have just found out. The problem is far to many sellers on ebay.

Now if you hired a good welder to undertake welding and panel replacement I'm sure you will make a fortune. I have hunted high and low for a good welder but have yet to find one. I need a front and rear panel doing sometime and I guess a lot of people here on this forum need work doing, worth thinking about.

I would take the Mk2 option and instantly you would open up 4 times the market. And Mk2 stuff is cheap as chips at the moment, plus more and more Mk2 parts are obsolete now from VW.

Failing that try some scantily clad women at the Emporium.

  :y: that get's my vote!

If you could source Corrado rear panels I'd imagine it'd be quiet a popular part (as you'd be the only supplier in the UK to my knowledge)  :dontknow:

Thanks for the offer and may take you up on it. Of course I'll pay you the going rate. Have to locate some panels first and will look at doing the job after Xmas.

Whereabouts are you located? I am in Cheshire, it may be so far away as to be impractical, etc.

Warrington, not that far away. Bit sick of fixing parts on my car, just want to give it a break until after Xmas.

Sounds good, also I'm probably off work now until the new year, so let me know if needs be. What areas of welding are required, and is it to pass an MoT, more involved restoration style, or cosmetic items?

On a more general note, I'd be interested to see how things all pan out - other scrappys need to register with the environment agency, etc, do you get regular visits? I was at one today and there were a couple of people from there, having a chat about stuff. Also, do the council charge you rates? What other hidden costs are there in running a professional setup? I know that others have had troubles upscaling their business because if they did things more professionally, they would have to comply with loads of regulations, etc.

Or are you swimming in money and living the dream????

Id try a magazine, as no one advertises mk1 parts in a magazine as yet, but you would need to find which magazine most mk1 golf owners read  :P
Also, Put an ad on here if u can, and on other websites, with a link to your website  :)

hi
havnt read all this so im not sure if its been mentioned. i just typed in "golf gti mk1 parts" into google and your site didnt show up on the first 3 pages, i stopped searching then as thats as long as anyone else would bother to search. not good. web hosting is very important.

i can put you onto a guy who builds sites and speacialises in these areas.
in the search i did, www.gti-bits.co.uk came up 2nd and a few times after that. hence that buisness is booming, he built that site.
pm me if you want his details. im sure he could do wonders with the site you allready have.
