This is a timely thread - I got made redundant today (!)  11yrs at same place so probably time for something new. Am (was!) Marketing Manager for a company that sells tableware. Very boring, but pay was pretty good, and my choice of company car (A3 S-Line).

Merry Christmas or what (!)

im a paramedic

That's cool. I wan't to train to be an ambulance technician in the new year, any tips or advice you can offer?.
I work as a delivery driver for Iceland at the moment, It's ok but I really would like to contribute a little more and have some job satisfaction.
Some of you have cool jobs though.

you will have to be quick if you want to train as a technician as the are being replaced by a beast known as an ecsw or driver they have less skills than a tech. my trust no longer trains techs, but if you want, you can go back to uni and do a paramedic degree and join as a paramedic, and do the easiest  job in the world   hth

As usual that makes no sense at all to have a less skilled person driving the ambulance???!!!. Just another way to save money I suppose. I was gonna wait till next year when my son starts full time school before i start training. Is a paramedic degree the usual 3 years or is it shorter?, the thing that appealed to me with the tech job is the short training time scale with the oppertunity to become a paramedic later. I'm still gonna do it but I can't go back to school for 3 years cuz money won't allow.

8O  can we see a developing trend here………………DONT start me on PCSO`s………………..and now we gonna get a potentially weaker ambulance service!  what happened to the "golden hour" the difference between life and death? the difference between police gathering good evidence to gain a conviction?

at this rate by 2015 the whole country will have twice the emergency services capability but with HALF THE SKILLS needed to do the jobs……….this government is a joke :banghead:

for the cost of 10 PCSO`s you could have 8 fully trained police officers……..for the cost of 10 ambulance "drivers" you could probably have 8 paramedics! this is getting ridiculous……

i think people go for pcso jobs because they want to be proper coppers and see it as a foot in the door if they do it for a year or so. others maybe just like the felling of power they get without any of the resposibility! duno if thats the same for the ambulance service. :dontknow:

i think the ou  are starting a course soon so you could do it while still working in your present job, but you are right the technician route was quicker and less hassle

im in webdesign.  I designed google and am worth millions as a result.

Seriously though, I'm a barista while I save up for my own coffee shop.

My friend is a barista with his own mobile coffee stall:

Seems like a good, flexible way to be a barista.
