In need of desperate help about my roof - Photos

Hey, have taken some photos of the rips and tears in my roof.

Can anyone suggest a way to fix and patch this up to last during the winter…and would I eventually need to replace the whole roof? If so, how much would this cost?

Thank you,

A small hole to the top left of the rear window:

The right top edge:

Nasty close up of the tear shown above  8O :

Side view, read this is caused by the tension cables or something:

imo get a new roof now before your car resembles a pond inside.

Budget for about ?300 for one fitted at your place including side cables

I used soft-tops.co.uk and they came to me, others are carhoodsnorthern and carhoods direct

Cheers

Ok, cool…thank you. That's a lot of money though…is there anywhere you can buy second hand soft tops? Any ideas on the price and fitting for one of those?

Thanks again,

It's really not worth bothering with a used one.

If you fit it yourself the hood is about ?130 from those guys

If you buy a used one and get someone to fit it you'll probably be looking a bill of over ?200 I would have thought.

Vinyl

Ok, cool…at least that's the cheaper one to replace. Will just have to patch up the hole and cover the rip with a plastic sheet or something to stop water going in (doesn't really leak at the moment)…but if the weather gets worse, like you said…i don't want the inside of the car to resemble a pond!  8O

Might be true but I like the colour of Mark's. Anyway Gaffa Tape is your friend so use it liberally where necessary until you can afford a replacement hood.

Ah ok, cool. Really worried about if the roof starts to leak…how long-lasting is using gaffa tape?

Really want to look after this car and dont want something as stupid as rain to ruin it.

Would using a car cover affect the rust too much?

Ahhh, that's quite cool…looks so much cleaner and newer.

Whats the difference between vinyl and mohair? I'm guessing thats just a "beige" hood?

Vinyl is basicly plastic and mohair is a weave material. They catch the tiny Mo, native of the Scottish Highlands and now an endangered species and shave the little blighter. This is usually performed in spring and they grow their hair back by autumn. Anyway it takes roughly 50-60 Mo's to make one car hood so that's why it's more expensive than Vinyl.
