Forum Censorship

Got another wee message from admin for swearing.  But I believe that my language is overly censored.

I predict the average forum user is between 25-35 ? But to visit a car forum website, you must surely be old enough to drive a car, or at least use the internet! And so who's getting offended when I say I read a funny post and was "pissing my pants" - it's a figure of speech.

I don't want my comments to be taken out of context, I can see clearly this is a fantastically run forum and website, indeed club, and I am not saying I could run it any better, or that it in any massive way has to change, all I'm asking is for a bit of opinion on "adult language" that isn't directly offensive or insulting.

On the post "tell jokes" there are some hilarious threads, but some are definitely quite literally offensive.  Has anyone complained? I certainly don't plan to, but feel that if we are a forum that can laugh at the suggestion that teen porn mags supply exactly what is suggested on the cover, then why all of a sudden take offence to my Glaswegianisms?

Thoughts?

hmmm….

theres nothing you can do or say to convince the mods that you are right! if you look at it the other way, allowing swearing could potentially reduce traffic thru the site massively as any half decent content filter (as installed on most work, school, cyber cafe and library computers) will spot the F word at 100 paces and block the site!

the other issue is the age of people. saying you are bound to be old enough to drive to be on here isnt true!  you dont have to be a pilot to admire airplanes! theres a 101 reasons why a school kid could want to be a member here or even just read whats been written.

tricky one…..  but you dont need to swear, be more inventive and get round it….
'ford off you stupid punto!' for example…
merely an example, no offence….

if only jesus was alive to see this..!

like it or not, they decide what's acceptable and what is not. i've had a ban for one month from the higher powers and i'm on my last chance to avoid a lifetime ban. i don't think i was any where near as bad as the mods thought, but that's tough. they tell us the rules and it's up to us to follow them or not.
i will say though, there are other forum users that will get away with alot more than i. i got my final warning for telling a joke!? there is a whole thread of them on here and the one i told is STILL on here. couldn't be that bad then, could it? sometimes it's a face fits thing. and when that's the case, complaining works just as well as reasoning.

is there not a thingy bob on the forum coding that changes words? ie all naughty words become something else, we had this on minifinity the forum i used to haunt for minis, any bad word was changed to rhubarb. all done automatically like MS word does.

My six year olds son is sitting here right next to me now. I can't shake him off and he loves the Mk1 Golf.

I think it's a good idea we have some control over what's posted on the site. He can read and is old enough to use the internet. I don't want him hearing bad language from you guys, he hears enough from me!

  i have actually got tourettes!  well not quite but i use colourfull language a fair bit to express myself…although its usually aimed at people of a lesser mental capability than i, or people of questionable parentage and blood stock  blaggards, hawkers and rag and bone men   (see i got round it!)
I dont personally have a problem with the odd swear word on a forum, "protect the kids" is a farce anyway, most of them swear like troopers at any age! as they already hold the vital words that YOU as a parent sometimes let slip! so its in their vocabulary from a young age anyway.
I do agree with wooders to a degree, i have had 2 warnings for what i would consider nothing more than very very low level expletives but thats just how it goes i suppose, i did moan bsck once, and pointed out one of the members even has the word i got told off about in their user name!!!!!!!!!! how hypocritical is that!

I was under the impression that this is a democratic site with paid and none paying members surly we need to have a vote on a subject like this?
we need to ask why none of the moderators have bothered to respond to this thread?
the club if not careful could be construed as a members members club if you know what i mean
how do you become a moderator anyway? who chooses them and why don't other regular members get a say on who they are?
I feel wooders would be a good moderator to give it balance.
my view is swearing isn't needed but it depends on which words are used? im sure no one these days could be offended by the word sh*t or cr*p but other words such as B*****d are easy to see offence in.
I do think and automatic word changer on posts would be a good idea just in case you slip up now and then
just my thoughts on the subject

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

I know what the procedure is upstairs being an exmod myself. Any major issues such as banning, fraud etc are discussed in detail on threads, all the moderators chip in there views and a joint desision is made and actioned. There is no favouritism at all I can promise you that. The small issues such as swearing, naughty words etc are regulated without discussion and is normally done when a moderator spots an issue, some do get through the net because it is simply missed.

I recently got a 1st level warning on a small issue by markone, but I took it on the chin and moved on. You must remember that the moderators are volunteering time to keep the site respectable for all ages.

most forums have another section that isnt visable to normal members, only those with mod status have access. this section is used to discuss other members behaviours and day to day issues of the forum. that is probably the case here and although you dont see it they are constantly discussing what we say and do.

you never know, they could even be plotting to take over the world!
