forgive me father for i have sinned

Sold my cabby 4months ago and was very sad to let her go but to be honest she just wasnt practical for an every day car. The straw that broke the camals back was the leaking roof only a small drip but enough to wet your seats. She had had a new roof but she still leaked, anyway the decision was made and she was sold. It was my plan to buy a mk2 gti and run that but in my heart of hearts i still hold a torch for a mk1 but i just dont have the time to do any tinkering to keep one on the road. Foxters gti at 500 quid is very tempting but i just havnt got the time to devote to it at the moment.  Now heres my confesion "IM BUYING A PEUGEOT " :banghead:  dont want to but it will be my workhorse till i get sorted sometime next year. So if you see someone in a 306 looking like this    then that will be me!

I've had a few in my driving career and they have all been poo the least phooey was a 206 the worst a 307.

Dont ask what your club can do for you, but what can you do for your club?

I have top agree with the previous gentleman, FRENCH CARS ARE CACK!!!

I'm also looking for a second car but am not straying away from VAG, I've been looking at Jettas, Passats, and Golf mk2's in GL form they offer a high level of comfort and reliability, not only that they are ******* cheap at the moment!!!!!

Also had my eyes on a couple of early (1983-1986) Audi 80's 0r 90's  really well built cars

Sorry to disagree but in my experience when it comes to newer cars some french cars (Renault) are miles better then VW. My prev daily driver was a Clio dCi I had for 5 years and70k miles. It was 100% more reliable and cheaper to run than the Diesel Polo that preceded it. In fact the Polo was far and away the worst and most disappointing car I've ever had :x

All newish cars are a liability with their electronics and bells and whistles just waiting to go wrong. A well looked after MK2 Golf is prob as good as it gets. Durable so it last and most things DIYable with normal tools and cheap-ish parts from GSF/Eurocarparts.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Trouble is im after a diesel and for the little money im gonna spend i can get a peugeot 1998 onwards with full electrics compare that  to a similar year and spec golf and its silly money in comparison. Ive had a mk3 1.4 golf and they are so bland and under powerd that ive gone down the peugeot route and the mk3 gti has to be one of the worst gti models produced absolutley bland and charectorless . Never had a french car before so this is a first but its just my workhorse and thats what ive got to think of untill i get my next vw.  :dontknow:

At least you're not getting a 205 GTI. The amount of 205 owners who ramble on about "It was the first real GTI" yap yap yap….
then why are you in my rear view mirror?
oh and your exhausts falling off too

I've got a 1998 306 D Turbo as my daily driver and although it's nothing off the blocks, in 3/4/5 the torque is great and plenty enough speed to overtake. The handling is great and you can chuck it around nicely. It's very economical, low insurance group and you can pick ones up with decent spec (electrics, air con, cd player etc) for pretty reasonable prices now.

AGGGHHHHH! Hang my head in shame, I'm talking up a Peugeot!

Sorry.

Ha! Ha! Fair point Topoftehrange, I'll take that one on the chin!

But forget the economics, the D Turbo IS fun to drive. Now it doesn't bring an instant smile to my face like the VW but it is quick and handles very well.

(but in the age of ?1+ per litre diesel, economies matter. DAMM, done it again - a quick 1/2 hour in the GTI should wipe all traces of Francophobia from my system, will self administer now)
