Yeah itd be mental for sure, you wouldnt even need to sniff the gas to be cackling your head off as you pass the 1/4 marker…

Could do, but 5 cylinders inline is inefficient packaging, and the Mk1 Golf engine bay has little space. It would have to be mounted longitudinally to fit. If you're committed to longitudinal mounting, why not V8? Its the same length as a 5 cyl, but doesn't need to be stressed so high to achieve 230bhp. Also a Rover V8 would be way cheaper than an Audi 5 cyl, in the long run.
