Stick me down as a possible

Definately going next year, just not sure if it'll be in the Mk1 with you guys, or in the Corrado with some friends

Girlfriend went last year and stayed at the place right next to the track (if you've played a game with the track, it's the hotel/B&B you can see as you go over the only bridge   best I can explain it really).. can get better details if needed?

I'm sure if we booked early enough we could all stay there  8)

Hi Guys,

Sorry i'm joining the party fairly late, but have you got any idea of cost and date please? I'm seriously thinking about buying a mk1 and the Ring was on my list of things to do :)

Hopefully it'll be April or later!!

Cheers

Adrian

Been to the Nurburg a couple of times in various cars, including my mk1 cab in august.  Best place to stay is in Adenau about 15 mins from the ring and shed loads of people stay there.  unfortunately I am going in a swift sport next year at some point.  but it is a fantastic experience not to missed and don;t think that your car affects your pleasure, the first year i did it was in a Citroen Saxo 1.1x and it was just as awesome as the Golf.  One thing I would advise is they are very touchy about convertibles and helmets so if you are tacking a cabby make sure you rent/buy a helmet, as i didn't know this and it was only due to my mates immaculate German that we were allowed on the track with the car.  Anyways Chaps i hope you have a good time but won;t be coming with you.  Going on a week spectacular next Spring, Nurburg, Spa then the Swiss and Italian Hills with my Suzuki Swift Sport.

New bonnet on the way. :-)

Having had a chat with Rob, I now have some definite details!

Date: Saturday July 26th (daytime ferry) - Tuesday July 29th (but see below)
Cost: ?450 per car
(1, 2 or 3 people per car)

This includes ferry and accommodation but not Nurburgring track charges or specialist insurance for the track. More importantly, it includes a support car with plenty of tools and spares, so we should be able to sort out any breakdowns or issues along the way.

For this special deal price, we'd need a minimum of 5 people. In order to book the ferry early enough for a discount, etc he'd need ?150 deposit by end February. The balance would need to be paid 6 weeks before the trip, ie 1st week of June. He'll be able to accommodate latecomers up until around end April, but this would miss out on the ferry deal and be approx ?499.

I've also asked if he can price up an extension of making it a week long trip incorporating a visit to Wolfsburg and the VW Museum and Factory.

PLEASE CAN YOU INDICATE IF YOU'RE INTERESTED, together with saying "definite" or "maybe".

Thanks!

Yes, the price is per car with 1/2/3 people, you'd be sharing a room with your passenger(s).

I think the point of going (or doing track days) is the thrill from the driving itself. I'm not bothered about a sticker, etc.

So, looking at the above, its definitely worth checking out specialist insurers. Maybe someone who's been before can suggest companies and typical costs?

I could not agree more.

If you are thinking of doing the Ring a few points to bare in mind…..By the way if this has already been mentioned sorry but don't have time to read all of the posts today..

Noise………….Like all of the tracks in Germany the comply with noise regs….I went there with 5 mates 5 bikes a trailer and and van full of spare exhausts to change just in case and less my Duke we all had to swap them…so if you running a loud'un bear it in mind….

Speed…………Someone mentioned a none bike day…..Trust me, we will be the slowest things out there. Less the buses and the odd Micra. The locals have very very fast cars and of course track knowledge…I was on a bike doing 110-120 on the straights (did not know my way) and was passed by bikes doing 180ish and cars doing 150-160….Believe me my first lap was terrifying…..My mates were track day nuts and every lap they had a near miss story to tell.(as did I)

Trailer………….If you go in a group you must must must have a way of getting you car back…Either breakdown or a trailer….I have never done a track day and never will without a trailer its madness….

Cost………….Depending on how many days you want to do will depend on the ticket you buy……If you buy one ticket it must be used that day…..That is the same for them up to 7. Then if you but a 7 ticket pass you can use say 3 on one day and then 4 on the next. But the good thing is they are valid for a year… You can also buy a 10 or 20 or more type of pass and the same applies. They work out about ?10-!3 each depending on which one you buy.

VW Factory……….This will need more than 2 days as it is in the North of Germany near Hannover and is a hell of a treak to get there. I went from Osnabruck to The Ring on a bike at 85 ish and it took a fare few hours. Osnabruck is 2 and a half ish from The factory as it is near the Herzt mountains which is a hoot and you could tie them in witha trip.

All of this is just advice and it is 5 years old as that is the last time I went.

I would be up for the Factory trip as I have been 4 or 5 times and it is brill. I can help with accomodation as I have mates all over Germany and I can use the German camps to stay in. Ths would involve some kind of donation to their fav charity but would be less than a hotel….Having said that an Ibis is abou 50 euro and a 4 berth suit in th Hertz is only about 90 ish so they are not that much.

To get in the factory is about 24 euro I think but again it was 2 years ago i went. If you want a tour that can be done for a bit more but the last tour I got we didn't pay for as I am in the REME and they were more than happy to have us…Again a lot of calls were made but worth it….You need to book an English one which are at different times.

I had though of a Mk 1 owners stand outside the front entrance next to the off road track and we could show our cars as there are not many Mk 1's inside the plant.. :dontknow:

If you need advice on Germany give me a shout as I lived there for 10 years and could probably answer all your questions including those of a dark nature I hate to  say. :?

Dave

PS. Having done 7 laps of the Ring on a bike I believe that all 9 of my lives are now used and you can count me out thanks….Nice to have done but gald it is over…

Just received this from Rob:

Hi mate i've looked into extending your trip to the vw factory, this is what
i have come up with. please bare in mind i don't know the hotel and can not
recommend it  from experience!!! Wolfsburg is 300 miles from Bonn so a good
days driving 5/6 hours and a full 600 miles from Calais. so what do you
think of this itinery

Sat— leave uk to Bonn
Sun— full day at the Nurburgring
Mon– Day at the ring or discover Bonn
Tues– Head for Wolfsburg
Weds- visit factory/museum stay overnight again in Wolfsburg
Thurs- Leave Wolfsburg and drive back to Bruges/Oostend for overnight stop
(approx 530 miles)
Fri— ferry back to UK.

The full week will add ?275 onto the price per car.
i have added a link for payments of depoists for the trip on our main web
site www.pbcmotorsport.co.uk just go to the order form page and you will see
the golfmk1.org link to paypal. payments can be made by all major
credit/debit cards, paypal or cheques made payable to PBC Motorsport
limited  to be sent to PBC Motorsport limited 5 Barnfield Road Halesowen
West Midlands B62 8NB.

the extra trip will be one hell of a journey!!!!
Rob.

So, let us know if you want to do this too, for the extra ?275.

Me and a mate went round the ring in 06 on the way to the VW Worthersee show in  Passat W8.
We were doing around 120 /130ish and people were undertaking us,overtaking us ,all sorts of malarkey including bikes nearly crashing into us but i can honestly say i laughed the WHOLE way round non stop,it was excellent and well worth the risk! :D

keep on keeping on

Unsure whether I can go to this now. Have to save up for going to New York, which to be fair isn't exactly cheap if I'm going for a week plus I have to go with my family to see some family but hey ho :(
