Nurburgring trip 08 Mk1oc
where would we go from? dover adds 5+ hours each way for us up north but hull does the same for those down south. hull to the ring does seem like a shorter journey thou.

I'm definately up for this one, for sure.
I don't really mind when next year as long as the weather's all good
I'm not too sure on travelling down there as I've never drove to or in Europe before so it'll be a new experience for me lol.
I'll be watching this thread closely methinks

I'm up for this for sure. Once it is more organised with prices, it would be an idea to get deposits paid, then we will have a clearer idea of definite numbers.

Hi - I went with Speedline Ferries oddly enough. Was ?19 each way for my car. They do cram the cars in though so be warey. I hate it when you can see people pushing past your car! Nothing happened mind you.
The place I stayed at was more for bikers but I was made really welcome and there was plenty of space to park the car. Took about 20 mins to get to the ring. Driving to the ring is mad. Bike and cars act like they're already on the track!
http://www.slidersguesthouse.com/ If Bren (the owner) can't help he'd be able to recommned somewhere. Top bloke.
I did about 4 tanks of petrol in total including the ring. So that needs to be added.
I stopped in Lille on way across (really good call and loads to do and only 1.5 hours or so from the ferry) and Brussels on way back. It's not so much on the way but broke up the trip and it's a superb city.
HTH
Anything else give me a shout

Hi all, I'd be up for coming along as well, but mailny depends on the dates/costs.. I wont be racing round the ring tho, as my cabby is an auto!!! Would be stooopid to try it..
however, i'm a reasonable motor racing photographer, so would pick a good spot and get out the camera and snap away at you all..
woudl be great to go there in a convoy tho, hull or dover, same travel really, just from dover the fuel overseas would be cheaper!!!
keep us all updated on dates etc

I went this year with 17 others and had a class time.Ive been the past couple of yrs on the trot and definately going next year coz each time we go is amazing. We found a great b+b about 3mins from the ring for 20euros per night the breakfast was really good too.It had a great beergarden and he would even stay at the bar till we all went to bed.We have allready talked about going again next year and everyone that went this year will do again next year.I put a post on here earlier this year about the trip and got a few replies with people saying they would go but these never did even though i put all the details on there of exactly when we were going etc.I think it would be great if something like this was planned,so again next year i will probably post another one on here, but it will probably be mid june again, its a good compromise between good weather and open tourist days. And for those worried about wrecking their car,one of my mates came in his new Lancer evo 7 and lent it to another mate of mine for a lap,he got it a bit sketchy 7corners into the lap and smashed it to bits.He said the recovery crew that rescued them were really calm and helpful and handled it perfectly, but the best bit is,the insurance paid for the car!The bill to repair the damaged track was 1700 euros though.

If we're going to seriously look into this, we'll need to sort out insurance. I've just read my policy docs (Footman James) and they exclude any form of racetrack or being trackside, but might be able to offer it as an add-on. I've also done a little looking around and Competition Car Insurance part of Eggar Lawson group I think 01159 415255, does trackday insurance and can cover the Nurburgring.
If there's any scope for getting a group discount on things, I don't mind (trying to) make it an 'official' club thing and sorting money out or deposits, etc but as I see it, the main sticky point will be insurance and I'm guessing that will have to be sorted out on an individual basis.

i think it would be good to set the wheels in motion and make this a club trip and have a sticky thread
as for insurance its down the people who want to go the get cover for the trip ill be ringing my insurance company to find out what im covered for
i think a date needs to be looked at sooner rather than later but it would be good to pick a time that doesnt clash with other vw events
i think we need to look at the number of people interested then work out how much of a deposit is required
few initial thoughts
1, do we book the ferry, tunnel?
2, do we book as a group or individualy
3, do we pay for the ring before we get there
these are all things that need looking at
i think we need to nominate 3 or 4 people to to start organising and looking into this
i dont mind being one of them

Ok out of the list, who's still interested, given the likely cost will be ?700? I've done a bit of research:
I'd suggest stretching it out to a week and visiting Wolfsburg, too.
If you want to get an idea of all-in costs for a weekend trip, for a 'standard' weekend (out Fri, full day Saturday, half-day Sunday, return Sun afternoon/eve) from London by car, the costs look something like this:
Channel crossing: Varies, but say typically ?120
Petrol en-route: Typically 2 x ?60 = ?120
Petrol for the Ring: Say ?90
Bed-and-breakfast per person: ?25 per night x 2 = ?50
Food: 2 x dinner, 2 x lunch, food en-route, beer = ?100
25-lap ticket = ?232
Total = approx ?700
I'd suggest stretching it out to a week and visiting Wolfsburg, too.

i think ?700 would be a minimum for the people doing laps at the ring
im a deffo
is it possible to do a club pm to each member? with rough details like a flyer i guess as this is not like most shows where people say they will then wont?
and either a week or long weekend would be good non fussed whatever the general feel is

club gti went this year from the 24th to the 27th of august from what i can make out they all book the same place to stay but make there own arrangements to get there
now this see to make things a bit easier but in my eyes it could leave a few people wondering who will turn up
so im going to look at availability for next year in august or september
