Child seats in a Mk1

Child seats in a Mk1

I've got two different Britax ones, both fit well in the front but neither hold firm enough in the back - I love my 2 year old being sat alongside me when we go out in the GTI - He calls it "zoom-zoom" as it goes fast but the other half hates sitting in the back as she gets car sick………..

So, have any of you guys and girls fitted a child seat into the back of your Mk1 and if you have, what make is it?

I've got a Recaro young sport. I use it in my mk1 and mk4 v6 4motion. No probs at all. looks the part too. If your seat is sliding too much you can buy a rubber seat protector from any baby store, they stop the movement and protect your precious seats!

You really need to get a three point fitted to the back.

The seat is designed for a lap belt or three point, not that he goes in the back a lot anyway, he usually goes in front, wife drives and i end up in the back  :? Wouldnt fit it if it wasnt safe

my boy is 31/2 now and sits in a full height booster  has been since he was 2 1/2 as he's a big lad and the normal seat his head was higher than

i deffo know the early stage seats can be put in with just the lap belt as long as you tighten it right up. they have a 5 point harness so aslong as seat is secure all should be fine.

there are p[laces around that will look at your car and show you the best seat to buy and fit them for you (kiddicare in pboro does)

If in doubt about the car seat go to Halfords and ask their opinion they will fit it for you correctly, don't take a chance on the baby's safety its not worth it…

Not really they fitted mine in a previous car and it was great no trouble what so ever, the chappie there was a bit older so he probably had a bit more up top… :dontknow:

Took the family out yesterday for the first time - just around town but the seats were just as tight at the end as they were when we left.

Britax renaissance in the front with a smiling 2 1/2 year old and Britax Freeway in the back with an unsure 10 month old.  The Freeway even has a diagram on the side for the lapbelt so it was designed for it.  It has to be in the fully reclined position.

I always find it best to kneel in the child seat whilst pulling belt tight to ensure maximum safety.

The wife enjoyed the experience - even in the back and the stroller we use fitted snugly across the parcel shelf.

Cabbyfun, glad to hear you had a good time.

To be aware of, putting things on the parcelshelf turns them into incredibly dangerous missiles upon impact or emergency stop.

Things as small as a mobile phone or bottle of water can kill whoever is in their path while hurtling at incredible speeds.

Dom :)

Someone once told me that an average sized dog unrestrained in the back of a car moves forwards with the force of one metric tonne in an collision of only 30mph.

That'll kill ya for sure.

Hi Dom, long time no speak - We'll have to catch up at Volksfest wales. Keep your eye out for a slammed T3 - I'll be selling some tat

We bought both of our Britax seats from Halfords, in all fairness to them, they wouldn't sell us a seat until they had fitted it into our cars and we had to fit them in front of them to prove we could do it……… I had to take the three cars we had at the time down to them. The Britax lap belt type fits lovely in the back of the other halfs '67 Beetle and in my '78 Westy and '83 T3 but won't fit tight in the back of the GTI - No matter how hard I pull on the belt - It won't even sit tight if I fit it as a 3-point fix but it fits tight as hell in the front. It's the same as the other Britax seat we've got  :dontknow:

'83 T3?  Seems v late :/  Maybe I'm just ill-educated :)

*EDIT* Ohhhh do you mean T25?  I was thinking Type 3.  How foolish of me :)

I'll be at VFW, working on the Retrowagen stall.

Hopefully there won't be the 'riots' of 2004 :)
