My Golfs respray, work in progress....photos

my golf went into the bodyshop on Wednesday for a respray and genral tidy up, she's having a new front panel and  the dinks and rust patches sorted out as well as getting rid of the bee sting aerial in the roof and the spoiler on the boot lid.  So far she's suprised me and the guy doing the work, in that she is solid in all the usual places that they go and even underneath the arch spats it's only surface rust in places, here's some photos so far…….

I'm not totally sure about the centre caps, though 'Pirrelli' is moulded in the caps and not just a sticker as I've seen wih some.

They look like the centre caps that came with the original Mk1 pirelli's on the 'campaign' edition. The black coating has come off the wording and around the perimeter tho.

The 'campaign' I had years ago had those centre caps, you can still pick them up but they cost a few bob….  a poor condition set (4No.) just ended not that long ago on ebay for ?55  8O

I'll get more photos when the bodyshop progress a bit further, the only difference since the last photos, is the front panel  has been removed and the new one is held on with mole grips at the moment and all the dinks and dents have  been circled with a graph pencil to identify where it needs smoothing. Been promised that it will be ready in time for Gaydon, though I need to get a new MOT on her as it ran out last week should fly through the MOT……. touchwood  :) .

Some more photos from this morning, looks slightly worrying for Gaydon, but I have faith it'll be ready  :)

Well, I was talking today to the chap doing it all,and originally he quoted ?400 to respray the car, but then I added the extra jobs like front panel replacement, plate the hole  in the roof where the bee sting aerial was (wing mounted now  :)  ) , removing the spoiler off the boot lid and welding up the holes for the screws that held it on and plating the hole that someone drilled for a single wiper conversion and also he's going to wax oil the lot. The car should be ready Friday and total cost….?600 which I think is extremely cheap  :), he knows he's cheap too but I have been flexible and allowed him to fit it in to suit his other spray jobs (he's had it 3 or so weeks).

and photos from this week…..

This panel was the surprise of the week, we hadn't thought anything was wrong in this area, until sanding revealed filler, quite a lot of filler to :? , it turned out, it had accident in it's past, the damage wasn't  anything to worry about, but whoever repaired the dent never knocked the dent out and just made up the shape with filler, a good 1/4 inch thickness all the way across.  So they ground out all the filler and beat the panel into shape ready for a light skimming of fill

These last two photos are the position the golf is in tonight, and tomorrow morning she gets the Schwartz Black

Was good to chat with you at Gaydon and now to see the car! I can't believe how little they're charging you for this - looks like they're doing a fair amount of work for the money! 8O

Is it mate rates or just good luck?!
