MOT Failed, Head Gasket Gone & Timing Out!!

The crankshaft pulley mark is on the second mark on the two prongs, TDC

That's good - I assume that means the notch is on the TDC prong when the piston is at TDC with the screwdriver test.

As for the petrol pooling on the heat shield that shouldn't be happening.

I assume it's a Solex/Pierberg carburettor - is it mounted on a square rubber block with 4 long mounting bolts pointing downwards ?

Yep all TDC, my mate double checked it, tweaked it, and checked it again,  is now spot on

Now i thought that, i shat myself when it popped 2ft bunsen burner flames out the rear!!

It's a Webber carb i believe, only two bolts holding it down i think but there is a square block below that yes

Pleased about TDC - seems your Crankshaft pulley has just been put on back to front.

Can you PM me your Email address and I'll send you a Weber 34 ICH Guide which is what I think you'll have.

There is a diamond shaped insulator block under the carbuettor - then a square alloly plate with 4 bolts - then under that a sqaure gasket - then the heat shield - then another square gasket onto the inlet manifold.
