Euro Look

Pro-mod vs pro-stock debate will always go on. Just be thankful that these days we can live side by side in the same club and discuss it! I personally think about 90% of modified cars are made worse, not better, by its mods. If you want to modify your car, you need to think carefully and avoid simply following trends for the sake of it. I don't understand why someone would try to categorise a particular group of mods into "the Euro look". I believe there's a vast variety of modified cars and there is no particular trend.

I agree with paul here. I think my problem with modified cars is that some people don't know why they are doing it! I mean to modify it just for the sake of it, because their money is burning a hole in their pocket seems crazy to me.. A lot of the modified add ons are designed in such a way, that on the shelf as you look at it, you might well think, wow that looks pretty radical, for example Fiat Punto back lights… They look really complexed with a series of round projecting lights instead of the standard flush plastic ones… But on the car they look poop! The got to have it magpie effect is what ruins cars, because once you have spent a large sum of money on something like that, you convince yourself that it looks good. This is so that you don't have to deal with the fact that you have wasted your money! Not all modifications look bad, I'll give you that. But know what you want and why you are doing it, otherwise you will risk looking like a chav!

Pinp my ride = Chavtastic
Overhaulin = Quality

In my humble opinion!  :D

Funnily enough, the Golf adverts in America were a parody of Pimp my Ride.

i have always modded my cars, and i have had a few, but i have always done it with careful choices and being careful not to choose things that are down right chavy,

i have either like modern styling touches or retro style, trying to be in keeping of the cars era.

chav cars (1.2 clios with 22'' alloys and big bi-wing spoilers) are here to stay and have one purpose…….to make us laugh,

tbh most of the golfs we see on the road and on forums are modded pretty well and dont really get the chav work over, and for that we should be greatful.

all the cars that i have seen in this club/board/forum are brilliant, standard or modded they are all a credit to their owners, and hopefull ill be joining you all soon.

it's worth pointing out, that there are 'trends'. as in fashion some things will date and look horrendous later on. tsw stealths for example. ats cups however have and will be timeless. these are wheels and easily reverseable/updated. somethings may not be so simple.
i think you should do whatever makes you smile, whatever anyone elses opinion. if you have to ask others if they think it will look good/pants, then do not do it.

I think the euro style can look brilliant if done in a tasteful way using original parts and executed well and not done gash.
Heres one i found a while ago when dubboy sold his series 1 and it is the best looking golf ive ever seen.

Most euro style cars, using the term 'euro' strictly, are all very good but some can go wrong.

However i think what really ruins a golf is idiots who do this…

I personally hate all kinds of BBS wheels with a passion but as yet to date I haven't gone off on a tirade about how truly awful they are.
Dave.

Thats a very strong opinion 8O and one that many dubbers wouldnt share , but again your personal preference and choice, i personally hate all those thin spoked multi fitment cheap finished italian made pelt.
real BBS alloys are one of only about 4 or 5 makers wheels i would EVER EVER put on any of my cars! others would be Borbet or ATS or TH or RH or Ronals or even standard steelies look good with certain styles especially if they have been widened 8)
BBS are a name strongly linked to VW`s and lots of other cars come to that and arent all just multi spoke, many factory alloys are BBS as are the original 6 spoke solitude alloys from my VR6, (which i still have as winter rims)  imo they suit a VW`s lines and are a quality product, i think most people love to see a mk1 or any other mk lowered onto a set of polished or colour keyed RS`s or RM`s as they truely are the definitave rim, much the same as the ATS classic and Ronal turbos,

At the end of the day if every Dubber liked the same things and mods then it would be boring and stale, do what makes you happy to your ride thats what i do, nobody else has to like it, as long as you do then thats all that matters, but standard cars with a few qaulity reversable mods is my bag, always has been and always will be 8)

His good points should be switched with the bad points. AND the good points… there aren't any.. whatsoever.

I think the phrase 'reversable modifications' is the key to tasteful modifying.

I agree, the best looking modded mk1's that i have seen, have simply been lowered, with nice wheels (no bigger than 15" and usually bbs or ats), easy as that!!

Its the edition 38 mk1 thread. You might have to register to have a look but its worth it. The best modded ones on there are series 1's which have simply been lowered + wheels + original colour re-spray!!

Dave

I'm now mk1less, ahhhhhhh!

This has hit the nail right on the head! The orange cab is actually done to a very high standard of build quality and finish etc, but is a hideous abomonation of a thing which you just couldn't ever drive without blushing and wishing the ground would open up and swallow you and the car!!

Looks ok except for the wheels/tyres, which just completely spoil it and make it look silly. Also, the crystal lights are IMHO ?80 down the pan - pointless mod. And if I knew loads of people were going to look at the car, I'd have made sure the bumper sides were straight instead of sloping.

i really like that car. simple, yet reversable modfifications.  8)

exactly, that why i have modded it in such a way. i could put the car back to standard tomorrow and you would never know the difference other than the respray. wheels/tyres/lights thats your opinion, and opinions are like a**eholes everyone has one, and quite often they stink!

the reason the bumper is like that is because i have lost the clip in the rebuild but i have found it now, but im sure there are going to be more eagle eyed people out there that are going to tell me that i have no sill trim, no wiper nut caps and non genuine front end. but hey i dont care, its my car and i have spent the last 12 months rebuilding it to how i want it, and thats what it is about at the end of the day, saving mk1's :)

When the tyre falls off the rim during hard cornering, you career off the road, and end up in a ditch (or something), the traffic cop will no doubt enlighten you with his opinion on the wheels & tyres!!!!
