u aint wrong…instead its about shakespeare….i pity the person that has to read it.

on a different note, how'd u think a darkish red hood would look on my golf?

I like the wine red roofs and it would make your golf individual which is good  :y: , there is a maroon one around here with the wine red roof and it looks really good.

i think so too. then the plan is, to eventually match the interior, cos mine's a bit on the knackered side. was thinking white/cream leather with red piping to match the roof or summat.

White with red piping would look spot on  :D , would cost a bit cause they use a lot of leather on the piping but worth it.

is yours the one with the power hood?
im lookin into buying another one hopefully a tin-top.
either that or swappin the engine in mine for the mk2 gti 16v but its just finding the right one.

havent been to any meets yet, cos iv only owned a mk1 for last couple of weeks. always had golf's but never a mk1! and im busy with uni work at the mo   :(

went to a few vw shows last summer tho, including Harewood House and it was spot on….even tho i went by myself

well ive just booked my tickets for it so ill be there.
never been to a vw show b4 been to a few car shows, usually classic, but never a specific golf one.
never had the chance where i used to live not a vw show for miles.
how much did you manage to get you golf for then?

Post

well i bought it off ebay so it was a bit of a risk, but im very particular wen it comes to my golf's, and i knew what i wanted

managed to sell my mk4 GTTDI for ?3750 and i paid ?1350 for the cabby. not a complete bargain cos it has had to have a bit of work on it, but i had a feeling about it. i was offered some minters as px for my mk4 but they just werent the same    :dontknow:

Post

thats a pretty good price
i forked out 2200 for mine but it was in mint condition.i turned up to view it with the cash in my pocket and after about 5 mins of driving it i had to have it.
have you had to change the brakes yet??
they are always shitty on the golf if you've only got the standard ones.
this is my second mk1 cab
i had a limited edition karmann cab but the engine blew itself up and took the gearbox with it.lol
still managed to sell it for ?500 without a key, gearbox, working engine, battery or steering wheel, basically just the shell, with leaking roof. thats how valuable they are nowadays.
whats your mileage?? and do you iknow if its the original engine??

Post

i think mine's a karmann as well…it has the karmann badges on it anyway. yea its the original engine. cant remeber the mileage. think its around the 130000 mark?

yes i've redone the brakes. the cylinders were leaking fluid, the brake flexi were twisted, pads were right down to the metal, discs were corroded mechanic said it looked like a butcher had been at it

i havent uprated them, cos i dont thrash my car or go at ridiclous speed so there's no need really. its stops fine now! theres just an oil leak which is a shame but it could be worse!

Post

yeah the brakes always seem shocking, really spongy.
you'll need to get as much info on your engine as you can off the net because i went to buy a new dizzy for mine and found out thet there were something like 13 different engines made for the gtis&cabs in about 6 years, and it took a good few hours to sort out which parts i needed. :banghead:
i need to upgrade the rear brakes cos im still running on drums and i want to put disks and pads on.
theres no point going stupidly quick in a cab neway its for cruising around with the roof down in the sun.
thats why im after a mk1 gti tin-top or i might get a newer car for reliability???
theres a mk1 gti cab for sale on ebay where you get a mk1 gti tin-top for free!!!! im waitin till that gets towards the end of the auction to see the price.
