while its like that i REALLY reccomend taking all the tar sealant off the floor, it will come of if u use a really stiff cup on a grinder, or a heat gun and a scraper, its all preference

i didnt do this and had to go back and do it once the car was assembled as i found some rust lurking, it will be well hidden, i also reccomend that you respray the inside and the bay urself to save some money,

also decide EXACTLY what you want to do with the car, price it all up and order it in one go if you can, saves SO much money postage really adds up, buying aerosols from place like halfords at doubel the cost will add up too…

May also be an idea to collect every nut and bolt and go to a fixings shop and replace the whole lot in one go, wont cust much, real cheap worthwile thing to do

And most importantly, good luck, i know how hard a project is, stay in there, it will be worth it…

the aim for the car - complete rebuild sprayed inside and out, underneath stripped down to shell all sealant/sound deading removed, all axles, control arms, hubs etc….shot blasted in house then sent for powder coating.
the bay - will be decluttered of everything swash/battery/brake mcylinder/servo,smoothed out and scuttle panel removed.
engine - everyone is going 1.8t,g60,2.016v so im going to keep it as the wolfsburg decided 1.1 4speed fully rebuilt(vw parts manager partners cousin :D ) with all new bushes/joints and im going to use in line byass valves for brakes,
interior - porsche seats, carbon fibre dash, new carpets roof lining,
outside - carbon bumpers, front spoiler, secret paint colour!!! extended arches.
wheel - ummm secret
rust- the shell is straightist ive seen for a while slight patch on n/s arch o/s rear window and front panel about 2p sized. thanks for your comments i'l post next developments,
but as you guys have projects/work wanted doing my buisness comes first.

There's a reason why people recommend and engine swap, if you have a 1.1 as standard!!!!!

VR6 isn't exactly 'the usual'. I am guessing its a client's car, surely they'd want to choose which kind of engine? How much power are you looking for and is it for road use, drag racing, trackdays or a race series?

0-62 mph in 7.9 168 bhp and 177 lb t with the constant delivery of power similar to a high power tdi, sounds like it would be loads of fun in a mk1 shell. still cheap car tax too! win win some may say!

I don't know, all I can base it on is Jeremy Clarkson reviewed it and gave it 1 star out of 5. Of course, that was in a (heavy) mk5 Golf. So maybe it would be better in a light car. He just described it as a very dull car.

the mkv as a whole didn't go down well with J C performance wise, we have a mkv gti dsg and it is an amazing car power delivery far better and faster than our 248 bhp mkiv. and it's only got 4k on the clock at present. that to would be a top mk1 engine convertion.
