I would drive it regardless of the weather apart from the fact that the fuel lines are shot and while I ordered fuel lines from golfmk1.co.uk (Crazyquiff) some weeks ago and they STILL haven't turned up!!!! :dontknow:

Everyday 8)
Doing about 2k a month at the moment.. feel guilty, but it's necessary and she doesn't seem to mind. I spend enough on the car to justify the high mileage!

Mine's a daily driver, like many non-gti's. Mine seems to thrive on regular use and long journeys. I must admit though, if I had a half decent GTi i'd be forever worrying about it parked up somewhere (even in the supermarket car park for 10mins!) or getting rusty and damaged so I'd keep it locked away and just use it for pleasure only!
I can understand why many of you have 2 or more mk1's - I'd have one for daily use and one to wrap up in cotton wool if I had the chance!

Leave Mk1s to the concours arenas
The motion seems to be, buy a mk2 (as it is pretty much a mk1) and leave the mk1 for sunny dry days. 8O

I never intended to build a car worthy of being shown, though I was extremely please with how it turned out when I finished. It has even won best Mk1 for 3 years running at the local show!
However, it is a second car, and being stripped (two buckets) and decked on coilovers, I can't really use it daily as I can't strap the kiddie seat in, so it is a second car/toy.
However, I do take it out in the rain (And snow if I got the chance! ) and every time I do drive it…
It gets a good pasting!

I think that there are quite a few concours cars around anyway which are going to stay that way and so all the others should be driven as VW intended them to be.
For the majority of us who can't afford to run 2 cars (or more) then they should be driven like any other daily drive (albeit with a bigger smile on our faces ). If you can afford another car as a daily car then great, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the mk1 should be wrapped up in cotton wool for the majority of the year.
I would love a second car, but it's not financially possible at the moment and so I know just to look after it. Even if/when I do get a second car, the mk1 will be out in all weathers as it's too much of a great car to keep hidden under covers for too long.
The car was invented to be driven……so drive it and be proud!
