private number plates

hi ive noticed alot of mk 1 golfs have private plates is thair any reason for this?

im only asking as mine has one and im wondering if thairs a site that i could get the value of mine from?

Mine isn't a private plate, mine is from Northern Ireland….. but loads of people don't know that!!!



I don't know if there is a value to mine!!! but may have a look into it!! mine would suit someone whos initals where S I J.

Ans4r a plate similar to yours …. K (+2 numbers) LFF is on for ?245 +

Mine SIJ (+4 numbers) …. well the Irish plates seems to be worth a bit!!!! might put it up for sale and sees how it goes!!!  :dontknow:  :dontknow:

Some of the New Northern Ireland plates from Co.Fermanagh seem to be selling quite well - they are the *IG 1234 plates.

eg, AIG 1234,  BIG 1234, DIG 1234 etc.

 BIG 1 went for big money!

It's always worth checking with the DVLA first but I don't think they deal in NI plates. http://www.dvlaregistrations.co.uk/home/en

My NI plate starts IUI then 4 digits.  Looks to be worth about ?3-400 which isn't too bad.

My parents used to live in Hong Kong.  A guy down the road from them paid about ?82,000 for the number plate '88' - the chinese consider the number 8 to be lucky.

I always got the impression that people tend to put private plates on their cars to try and hide the age. A private plate can appear to make them ageless - or maybe it's just me …..

I saw a girl driving a MK4 Golf the other day with DUB GIRL plate on, which I thought was a nice touch.
