Hey, It could indeed have been electrical but when It happened to me I got really freaked out ("Arrgh ive broken it"!) And it suddenly cleared up.

The problem was a massive amount of crud in the fuel filter and some got through to the carb, Your symptoms are the same as mine were - OK at idle and boggine when the throttle was presed. I drove around with the choke out for ages!

Check and replace your fuel filter and take the back off the fuel pump as there is a filter in there too.
