If money isn't an option then buy some Leda coilovers, as well as some castor adjustable top mounts, and then take it to a race-prep style workshop who have the equipment to properly set up the geometry of lowered cars (ie use kit that doesn't need to be clipped over the front tyres) and can also corner-weight the car with you sat in it.

Here is a thread which discusses race inspired suspension geometry mods, beyond simply fitting coilovers: http://www.clubgti.com…m/showthread.php?t=101514

The usual view is that FK Highsport are fine, they are around ?400 or so, anything cheaper is cheaper because they cut corners (in the quality).

I have Weitecs (I feel like I am the only one who does….) but to be honest, I can't really comment cos I've only done 50 miles on them. FWIW, the car is really hard and bumpy, it jiggles on anything but smooth roads, and I spend more time avoiding potholes and uneven areas, than going in a straight line. Also speed bumps are looked at in a completely different way. But I think this generally applies for any coilovers. I do have my car lowered 80mm, though.

heh thats actually a good question, and if I'm honest then I'm not really sure, but I've heard good things about them and the other variants, they seem to have a great spec too, including remote resovoirs - though I'm not 100% sure the ones for the mk1 chassis has them?

also they sponsor the berg cup so they're obviously uber cool!  8)

seriously though I'm sure most of the range toppers from the usual big names would be more than adequate

will it be predominantly for road or track as this would certainly affect the choice.

mk1 scirocco Gli in bits

to be honest not even road, as the car will be a show car and not do much driving

funny how the thread stops there. did you ever get sorted.

sorry matey, hate to be so judgemental but reading the

:X5 daily driver, money no object, show only car thing made me think (and countless others perhaps) that i am
A) jealous of your ability to produce what we want being as money is no object. i'll give blood sweat and tears to my car before i get anywhere near spending a penny i'm sure. all said and done though, interesting and good to see you'll go ?10K herre rather than on an M3 or something
B) gutted you'll build something and never use it. Golfs are for driving not just jizzing over. surely you want to extract all that effort back by giving it a good old thrash around. if it's going to be soo finely set up you've got to, right. if you want the "low for show" look, why not just cut the springs to drop it.

as i say, i don't mean to be rude, i'm sure if people don't see the funny side, they'll let me know. maybe you could show some pics of your project and explain how you sold the Beemer and bought an old audi 80 to get to the office.

We've not heard from x5pea for a while, I don't know what's going on with the project but it was destined to be a feature in a telly programme or something? Be interested to know what's going on here…..

Maybe you should get your facts right before jumping to conclusions, i knew at some point there would be some smart ass slating me cause ive got a few quid, i just didnt think it would be on MK1 OC.

Mate ive had about 10 Mk1 golfs, I worked in my uncles garage (a vw specialist) from about 10 years old, ive had a passion for mk1 golfs for about 20 years. Ive forgot more about the VAG group that you'll ever know.

Im doing a MK1 Show car causefrom the age of 10 i always wanted a balls out show car, im building it the way i want to not to please sum donkey on a forum. Oh and if you had seen the  roads up my way ud know why im not driving it when its first build, but for your info after the first year it will be hitting the road.

OH AND CHEERS TO THE GUYS WHO PM'D ME RE: THE ABOVE COMMENTS :banghead:
