NWM 15

Right…. nice and early chaps and chapesses,

Due to the evenings closing in and darkness spoiling any decent cruissing/ viewing of cars, may I suggest that we revert back to VW Light Saving Time and swap the meet days to the Sunday afternoons?

Last year we swapped in October to Sundays at 1pm still at The Wiggin Tree. We had the largest turn out of Mk1's (14) due to Kins hard work in the PM'ing department.

Looking at the poor (me included) turnout last Thursday we need to look at why folk aren't coming along. Does anyone have any answers, views, poor excuses or suggestions to inject a life back into the proceedings?
Any comments gratefully received positive or otherwise. Lets not  lapse into apathy!

Can I suggest 1pm Sunday 7th for the next meet?

We never have any guarantee that anyone will be there, and its a long distance for many of us, so people will decide not to come.

They may also see the thread with many of us pulling out last minute, and think theres no point in travelling the distance.

:dontknow: Not sure how it could be solved

Maybe set the date earlier so people can get the free time :dontknow:

Firstly: out of those people who want to attend a NWM meet, where are you from? I will start it off saying I'm from the Wirral, and my journey to Parbold Hill is 46 miles each way and takes an hour. If it turns out that everyone who is interested is closer to another possible venue, and that the people near Parbold Hill aren't interested in coming, then it would be worth reconsidering our 'home location'.

Secondly: Its not just a NW thing, and its not just because it was on Thursdays. If you look at SWM, that was on Sunday just gone and there were 4 cars there. If you look Nationally, it has been a struggle to get cars to go onto the club stands, for example Edition 38 had 6 cars on Saturday. There were many other Mk1s there, just not on the stand (compare with the Club Lupo stand with 30 cars or so). Gaydon was poorly attended too.

I think its down to the threads sometimes as Phat says!! Plenty of people show interest and as mentioned there were only 3 of us!!
We all travelled from the Liverpool/Manchester area and I know there are more cars in these areas!! SO maybe a move would be a good move for the meet?? I would be more than willing to advertise this meet on our www.clubgti.com forum for you and see if I can get a few cars there!! :D
Why not advertise on other sites as they dont mind at all!! 8)

See you at the shows!!

I've never been too bothered with CGTI because its so wide ranging, that the Mk1-specific know-how would get diluted, but the membership price vs offers look compelling. With the money I've spent at ECP and GSF, I would have saved a lot. And the insurance discount too! I have had no chance to take up the few discounts with our club and the insurance company ignored my first letter asking about the club discount, so I need to follow that up.

Anyway, what I'm saying is that it doesn't make sense to say we're either MK1 Golf OC or CGTI and effectively making people choose. It would make sense to make the meets 'coincide' and 'merge' naturally into one monthly meeting for both. I don't know how the CGTI guys would feel about it - the more the merrier???

Yeh no probs Paul!! :)
I would'nt mind if you wanna 'co-incide' the Mk1 owners meets with ours, as like you say the more the merrier!! :D
No need to make people choose in my book and it would be a good thing for the NWM Mk1 fledgling meet as you could come with us on all the show trips and meets we attend!!  8)
Its held in Warrington by the way on the 2nd Sunday of every month at 2pm!! Sound any good??
TBH in my book as long as its a V.A.G. group car its all good!! I do understand the 'specialist' view of the Mk1 but there is plenty of interest to go round!!

Well guys, if you're going to combine our meet with the CGTI one in Warrington and not attend the Parbold Mk1 meet, carry on.

When we… me, Kins and Walt decided upon the seperate meet it was because at the time it was the most central location for the majority who were showing an interest. We decided to keep it seperate so that we had our own identity and NOT be soaked up into the big world of CGTI.

Had we wanted to there is a CGTI meet at The Myercough pub on the first Sunday of every month. Its a lot nearer for me personally (10 minutes) but I am prepared to travel to keep an bit of independance for our club.

Time moves on, people sell up or lose interest and simply can't be bothered driving all the way to Parbold. That can't be helped.

Personally, I think that it would be a shame to say 'scrap the NWM' meets at Parbold just because of a few poor attendances. I didn't go last time because of child care (first time in 16 months) issues.

We have a lot of member from Bolton & Manchester areas maybe a meet location more geared to Cheshire & Warrington areas would suit you better. As Paul mentioned Preston Brook has its own meet but our Mk1 identity would not be recognised there you would be CGTI.

Just my point of view!!

I dont think we should combine the mk1 meet with the cgti meet :)  simply because its supposed to be a mk1 meet with as said with its own identity.

Dont get me wrong I love all VWs and will probably go to the Warrington CGTI meet now I know about it, and I regularly attend Manc CGTI meet, but its not fair to merge the two. :)

A change of location would be good, but I wouldnt know where to suggest

Any more comments from others? For example, there must have been 20-30 attendees over the past year or so who have come and gone. Or people in NW who have not yet attended.

Dano, I dont want to tread on anyones toes mate!! :)
Its not a case or you 'merging' with us as I see it, your quite welcome to attend our meets and keep your Mk1 OC identity (bring a banner if you want, no probs??).
It would be a shame to totally finish the Mk1 oc meet as its for THIS site and you've got your meet set up!! BUT the last few attendance figures hav'nt been good I believe and it does tend to go even quieter in the winter months!!
At the end of the day its up to you guys, your welcome in my eyes. If not i'll probably attend the Mk1 oc meet anyway!!   8)

not trying to offend anyone here but i personally think the nw meets are boring some of the trouble is that:

1. most people work all week so they are tiard and dont want to meet at the weekend they want to put there feet up and sleep and relax
2. you say not to tell people to put there names down in a list to say who is coming for example:
1.Chrissie
2.Dano
3.Walt
because it may threten them, when i think it would be a good idea because alot more people will think wow there will be a good turn out this time, and they will attend.

I say we keep it to the Thursday and the same time of 7pm or 7:30
we have the lights in the car park to see the cars and we have a pub to get a drink and have a good natter and get to know our fellow mk1 buddies.

Just my opinion u did ask!

Think we should get a vote up and see how many are actually available for the meets plus what day you can make it.

Y'all

Just wanted to put my two pennorth' in the pot:::

Were my GTI be on the road (which it is not), I'd have loved to come a'cruisin  from Parbold to Southport on a Thursday pm.  Unfortunately it isn't so I would certianly feel a bit "out of it" tagging along behind a stream of pristine Mk 1's in My Audi A4 or even my Riley Elf Hooligan Machine or Lawnraker 32.  I'd only really be happy swapping bits, info and tales in the Wiggin Tree (or wherever) carpark and bar and imbibing the odd pint with likeminded folks.

Sunday's is better for me since I can bribe wifey with a lunch at the Wiggin Tree followed by a trip to the Trafford Centre (the latter is extremely painful to me both financially and excritiatingly mentally but its probably no worse than for Wifey being lumbered with an hour or two of us Mk1 afficianados ..  she is, after all, a Mk2er).

I'm from Lytham nr Blackpool so anywhere within a 40 mile radius is good for me and Sundays is preferrable …nowt wrong with the Wiggin Tree as long as we buy the odd pint or nosh to somewhat recompense the Landlord for having us in his carpark.  However, I don't have a problem with Chrissy's suggestion that we continue on Thursday nights at the Wiggin or wherever…I can stop by after work since it isn't too far away from work (Samlesbury) but I'm not coming if yer all going to b*gger off elsewhere after half an hour…not until GerTIe is back on the road anyways.

Cheers

In my opinion, the reason not so many have turned up recently is because once you have been and stood in a car park a few times, it's all a little "same old boring" if you know what I mean! We need proper trips out as a group to make it worthwhile going along! Then when we have all got something other than golfs to talk about it will be more fun! We need to move on and progress! Combined meets with other regions on a sunday, Alton towers, Blackpool, Wales, White water rafting in Bala etc etc! Not just a load more "hows your new air filter affecting your mpg bla bla bla!"

That's my opinion anyway! Anyone up for any of that and I will make it happen! ..Catch you later!  :D

How many people are there with fully-running and on the road Mk1s, in the NW, who want to come to the meet on Sunday?
