The official Ebay thread

Thought it would be an idea to have a thread with all your Ebay 'spots' on. This can be Cars, rare parts, wheels etc.

I'll start. Interesting Series 1 with a tow bar!!!

I get a bit mixed up, why do people say a 79 model when they are registered in 1980?

They mean it was built in 1979 yeah?

I can't view e-bay at work - it does my head in when people flag up things of interest & by the time I get round to view them they are usually sold!

Doesn't look to bad, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has a bit of rust in it. Seller mentions sill and the o/s rear arch/panel looks rusty.

Think its a bit optismistic to say… "it is unlikely that there is another as old as this one right hand drive, in such original condition." Although not common I've seen plenty of as good or better rhd series one GTI's and this one has non-original spoilers, wheels, tow bar and door handles inserts.

Cheers

Its a bit like magazines…as in, you can buy October 2006 editions now.

The VW year was defined as September to July, with August as a 'general' shutdown time where lots of people had holidays, they updated the plant,  etc so that the new revisions for next model year would be able to be produced. Rather than having, say a '1979' model year car still being sold as new in March 1980, they named it 1980 but made it available from September of the previous year.

I think this is right, unsure about the exact months involved though!

I went to see that van, around 6 months ago! Its a troubled little vehicle. It has some unusual faults, such as weird dents which would present real head-scratching problems to fix. And it needs a complete interior retrim too. And, its had an engine conversion to a late 1.8 carb engine, poorly done with missing parts.

The seller wanted silly money for it, I am pretty sure it has no tax or MoT.

Are those bus sellers dreaming? 7k for that old heap and 6k for the rotten import, no thanks. I'd sooner pay a realistic price for them, I know they are rare but come on…

Unfortunately, the days of buying an old splittie and restoring it, selling it then making a handsome profit, are over. More people than ever have gotten MIG welders and can weld, so its the done thing to do buses.

If you buy the series 1, people will constantly be saying "I like your orange car" and you'd be saying "its Mars Red No1, not orange!!!"

I spotted this the other day. Could be a bit of a bargain this one!!! Just a shame it's had an aftermarket sunroof fitted.

If anyone buys this to break I may be interested in a front seat base if any are undamaged.
