I have to admit this is a intresting post i also have a 1.3 driver which i'd love to drive but 55bhp dosent seem very appealing. A engine swap is seems to be a costly and lenghty procedure. However slapping a tubo or charger on it would be a cool alternitive! Anymore updates?  :D

turboing a smaller block veedub is hard. You can interchange audi bits etc on the bigger block lumps but tbh i think 200 hp out of a 1300 is adventurous without forged rods and pistons and everythign balanced, head work cams and very accurate fueling to keep it together

i had all that work done on my g40 engine and had easily over 200bhp but it still blew up even with it all being professionally done

i think the easiest and cheapest way is what i did with my driver years ago and had a late 1.5 mk1 golf GX lump fitted…the worst thing is the mount needs changing but thats it.
then you can cruise at 90 alldaylong and you can also fit a twinchoke carb instead of the single + you get 5spd and cheap tax thrown in to the bargain aswell.Sure you could achieve 100bhp and in a golf that aint no slouch …mine was more than adequate even in standard form. :dontknow:
