dilemma... to mod or not to mod?

In my opinion, the split rims look very attractive on the car and at a glance will be very impressive! But once parked up and people start to really look at your car, an absolutely perfect set of original wheels always seems to be more impressive! I think over time you can become dissatisfied with the same old car that you have got used to and in an attempt to get that excitement and pride in ownership back again, it's very tempting to change for changes sake! Nothing wrong with the splits, if you buy a set, great, but keep the P slots and if they are not already perfect, use the time off the car to get them just so because I would put money on you wanting it back to stock at some point in the future!
Go for your life, but nothing permenant!  :D

Mine's not a campaign, but I am planning the same modifications as you are.

I'm going for 15" wheels and a 40mm drop, although my wheels won't be BBS… However, I will keep the springs so I can put it back to standard if I fancy.

IMHO you should go for it…

me too, my cabs staying original  apart from bbs of a mk2 the same age and 40mm drop springs, im trying to source the original wheels at the mo so i can either go original spec, or how i like her, with the bbs 15s.
tis a tricky decision specially on a campaign.

I think it's different for Cab's than for Tin Tops. There are quite a few cabs around the place but the Tin Tops in good condition are like Rocking Horse Dung.
Especially with a campaign you've gotta keep it the same!!!!!

??? That doesn't sound right???

I got a 16.5 sec Qtr Mile but I don't think I can do 60 in 6 secs!!!!!

If it can get to 60 in 6 secs, I would expect a quicker Qtr Mile than that!

mate ive never been in it or driven it thats what he reckons

Glad you like the pictures! I picked the polished rims up from a mate a
few years ago. They were on a 1982 white MK1 running a G60 supercharged
engine. Had a stripped out interior with roll cage, an incredible car.
Now broken up and being used for a different project.

Engine bay is clean but could always be cleaner!! I didn't want to bling
it up!!! Just nice and subtle. The bar across the two top mounts in the
engine bay is to keep the chassis tight, there is one under the engine
where the wish bones are mounted and a polished one across the top of
the rear struts in the boot. The car is also fitted with Urethane
bushes. This combined makes the car better on handling, it turns in like
a go cart!!!!

I did run it down the quarter mile at the Transport Research Laboratory
in Crowthorne a few years ago. It did the 0-60 in 6secs flat and 16secs
for the quarter mile.

ill grill him about that this weekend

Yep, think I'm gonna go for it. Lifes too short not to, and I'm never (I hope) going to sell her. But I have set myself the following conditions.

- only do wheels/suspension once the body and p-slots are in show condition, and I am absolutely happy that there is nothing else to do on the car.

- keep everything carefully stored, and one day return it to standard.

I have a lot of saving/work to do before then. The chassis mods are a kind of reward to myself for bringing the car up to a high standard. Good luck with yours mcscrew, I suspect it will be finished before mine!

Why - it could be quick down at low speed and loose out at the top end. Different gear ratio could allow him to get quick 0-60's but not so hot qtr mile times due to gearing ?

Just 'cos a cars quick to 60 doesn;t mean its fast over a Qtr mile

Oh, and I agree, lifes too short  - do what YOU want to the Car, but keep all the stadnard stuff to put back on when you get bored of the look.  :)

An original BBS kit from the 80's would look very nice indeed and a Cosworth engine would make it shift. Thats what I'm thinking of doing to my car.
