Colour of my car Poll.. join in

once I've got the mechanical side sorted out, I have a professional sprayer reprepping my car properly for me to spray again

now I'm toying with the idea of doing something a bit different with it..

options I'm thinking non-standard

midnight purple metalic fading into black - just the front fading into black before the doors

black metalic flake - complete

or something lighter fading into black - same as purple

Of course, just an idea.. we all get them.. and I'll probably sand it back and go back to standard in a year or so when I get bored

so put me off the idea of having a purple nose to my car  

quick 10 second photoshop of the purple to give  arough idea what I'm thinking

don't do a fade it will look all wrong…….IMO……black metal flake or black……I personally find certain car look good in ceratin colours and anything sle you lose the character..here are some examples

MK1 Mini Cooper S Red with black roof…..lovely
MK1 Mini any metallic colour horrible. 8O

MG midget BRG lovely
MG Midget Black…….wrong 8O

Golf GTI Black Lovely
Golf GTI Purple and Black wrong wrong wrong 8O

Lotus any model…Yellow …Lovely
Lotus in red….lost some of it's character 8O

This has probley started a debate, but I think it's a good way of thinking…..when i spared my mini…years ago i bought a number of can from halfords and sprayed the wing and stood back and then decised which one brought out the best in the car….obvously it was red!!!!

Finally it's your car, so please paint it your favorite colour :wink:

Keep it standard black - a mighty fine colour for a mk1 (failing that why not Alpine White). Purple to black would be good for a radio controlled car

Vauxhall *ahem* do a very nice shade of metallic blue - a friend of mine had a Fiat Uno Turbo *ahem again* sprayed in that and it looked superb (man I'm leaving myself wide open here)…

Anyways if you want a complete change of colour I reckon it would look very good on a Mk1 too…

Voted std black but any VAG black would suffice in my opinion....

If you're going non-standard, what about Helios Blue?

when I was restoring mine I thought about painting it met. black but didn't in the end - sometimes wish I did tho' would add a modern twist to the car.
Big NO for purple and black but if you want a purple tinge why not go for aubergine like on the edtion 1 G60s. Looks black but in the sun changes to dark purple  8) and its a VAG colour

Boyfriend use to have one and looked purpley/blue depending on the light.
would do the same colour all over myself,and try to stick to a vag colour.Think you'll devalue it if you go too extreme.

I agree with Mr_Gti, that aubergine colour on the G60's is lovely, something different but still a standard vw colour.

No, not the same a helios blue.I could be wrong but i think helios blue was only on mk1s.
Mystic blue is pearlesent and was on the mk3 golfs vr6 and corrados.

I had a mk2 in helious blue and in certain lights it did change colour slightly from a darkish blue to a purple blue
