Had to be towed home last night...

Just had a look, $170 delivered to the UK! Thats just under ?95!  Sounds good value.

I know you know your stuff but have you tried testing /replacing the wiring from the ignition amp to dizzy . My mate Velly's 16v was suffing symtoms not entirley different from yours and he found it was a dogey connection in that loom. The amp also needs to be bonded to the metal mounting plate with the special vw glue as it uses that as a heatsink.

I believe you mean the TCI unit?
If so - then I have tried replacing this with another, though I have not yet tried any re-wiring. This, I think, would be a last resort as will be time consuming!

You can get them a bit cheaper than that through UK suppliers too!
