Boots sprayed and on.. word of advise though, don't glue the headlining back on at the rear until AFTER you bolt the boot back on   <– says it all really!

needs another polish as there's a few flat spots around the edges but I'm happy with it..

got a confession to, all I've been using to get it nice and shiney after spraying is some very soapy 1200grit, T-Cut and the world's BEST polish!..  next up, driver's door

Yeah I'm finally starting to see light at the end of the tunnel, there are imperfections in the prep work when you look at it close enough, but for my first attempt at wleding and spraying and having no help (well, the other half helped with putting a side window in.. bless   ) I think i've done good  8)

I've done similar with a number of cars over the years.  Nothing so major on my Mk1 (its too good at the minute!) but most recently I've welded up and painted my Fiat 900E camper van.

When they are finished I feel it really increases your confidence in using the car and not being afraid to "damage" it.  Knowing that you know every little bit inside out and that there is nothing you can't repair gives you that little bit more confidence - particularly when out on the track.

Its not an attitude that comes overnight mind you - only comes in once you have picked up your first dent/scratch/stone chip.

Cheers for the comments guys,

Well… another weekend and another load of spraying! here's how I got on, got the passenger's door to sort out and spray and underseal all the hidden areas, get it running and tidy the interior then it'll be MOT time

Excuse the picture quality, they just weren't happening for me!

for those of you thinking about pattern wings.. don't bother if you can help it, after a long time messing around this is what I got it to fit like, and the bonnet needs adjusting as it sits about 2-3mm too far forward!

haven't taken a picture of the passenger side wing etc. yet, thought I'd wait for the door!

wanted to fit the grille but need to tidy up the red trim!

I recon I should have it on the road in a month (if all goes well) and should be able to make it to the Meet on the 28th august!

Paint still looks a little dull because I need to polish it (ran out of the good stuff!)..

worked out how much I've spent so far on it, as it stands, not including buying the welder, compressor and spray gun… I've spent ?1370 on it!

think I'm definately going to invest in a bigger compressor, dual action sander and a mop for the next project   either another Mk1 or i'm thinking something V8…
