Mk1 golf doesn't run right......

Cheers - Its been off the road for six months - but just before that it had a new clutch cable fitted.

Also come to think of it I had a new gearbox fitted about three years ago and a new clutch fitted two years ago, can they go that quickly.

I am thinking it may be down to the cable needs adjusting.

I will let the father in law drive it tonite to see what he thinks.

It seems to slip under pressure but then grips again.

As you can tell by now I am no mechanic. :wink:

Based on this, it's unlikely to be just worn out (unless your driving style is really bad  :lol:  ), so hopefully it's just a badly adjusted cable, but if you're less lucky, it could be a leaking seal on the (newish) gearbox, or from the crank seal on the engine side. If this is the case, you'll need to replace the seal in question, and also replace the clutch (oil contamination means it will always slip, so it's scrap if it gets oily)

Hopefully it's the cable, so as PhillT says, check the cheap stuff first!
