My Caddy Resto.

Nice tidy work there - MK1s are more important than buses :D . Post more photos if you got them. Going to be doing a similar repairs to both front parts of my sills this summer so this all interesting to see.

Cheers

Cheers, I'll sign up at some point and have a look. Photographic records are invaluable, started doing that myself now. Only thing is you can spend as much time taking photos as working on the car

Not touched the Caddy for a long while now due to other commitments and being out in Spain vistiting relatives, I did want to get it ready for the beginning of May and the All Types show    but now its got to come together for April (just 3 days, thats a better deadline than on American Hotrod   ).

Cant remember where I was up too with my little photo diary but I have got all the inner wings and sills completed now so there all solid again and sealed up better than new.

Just a few shots of the body prep, need to repair the rear panel and hopefully will have it all in primer by tomorrow  night 8)

Ok here she is as promised finaly back in one colour (even if it is a tad on the bright side  :P )

I decided to go for the nice mustard shade of high build primer rather than the commonly used red oxide or grey primer as seen on most other ratters

She's probably going to stay this way for a good few months now, just a few bits and pieces to put back on to make it all road legal again then I can tax it tomorrow  8)

Wow been a long time since I posted on here, and sadly not alot more has been done to the caddy thanks to my new job taking over my life.

lots of photos as usual, thankfully since my last instalment I have moved into my own house and built myself a nice big garage

So heres where the story picks up….

Lots of photos as usual

First job was the n/s sill, and I have to say it was worse than the other

I have hacked the back out of the cabin area, this is going to be extended back creating some space in the back for the air ride components and hopefully room for a sub  :D

With all the strength removed for the rear window section I pulled back the bent panel as best as it would go, its not quite straight but is so much better than it was.

Before & After

All done with the help of the trusty slide hammer and some bolts

I then got a bit sidetracked and started on something a little different.

Theres just one more bar to add across the front at the top, unless I decide to put door bars in but will have to see about that once I can get the caddy out of the garage and make all the floor brackets to fit the cage in properly.

I've been waiting a long long time to do this but with the help of a set of 2" lowering blocks the caddys finaly in the weeds!!

It will all have to come back off again to be cleaned and for when I shultz the underside of the bed, but I just had to get it done to see some progress

Also, I am now pretty desperate to find a pair of good (will even consider bad  ;) ) genuine VAG mk1 wings, so if anyone has a set or knows of a set let me know!

Enjoy!

Cheers Andy,

Its funny that cause I was just thinking the same thing looking at the date of them original posts!! it has taken me well over 12 months though to sort my house when I moved in, built the new garage massive driveway laid upvc windows, kitchen etc etc..

But its all done now and I'm back and fully focused      also me and my dad have bought a bay camper between us which is taking my time up too. Thats had all the running gear off lowered, alloys etc.

I know its not mk1 related, but I just love the look  8)

Another full day of grafting, isnt it always frustrating when you work all day long stand back only to feel like you havent really got that much done  :(

But saying that this took a while to line up square etc and I am so glad its done and more or less finnished as for me its a huge hurdle to get over as fabricating this and the state of the rear bed (next weeks plan of attack!) was really stopping us getting any body prep done.

Anyway onto the photos, false firewall fabrication     ….

Just need to cut the front panel tomorrow and get it welded in which is going to be fun as my air metal shears have packed up.

I am also considering buying a body roller to help with the paint prep and underside prep, if anyone has any experiences or recomendations?
