Gear Box upgrade

Can a 1.8 carb drive a 1.8 GTI Gearbox?

That gearbox will bolt on the engine and fit in the car with no problems,

the flanges can be swapped for the ones on your old box so your 90mm shafts fit and will probably need the seals doing anyway, or buy 100mm shafts and hubs.

020 Flange

the clutch will fit but should use a 210mm clutch with 9 bolt flywheel but you should have that if its from the 1.8.

Interesting read this about the gearboxes. I was told…..that the original 020 gearboxes are pretty stout and can take a fair beating, does anybody know how much bhp they are good for?

I was also told the original clutches can be hammered up to about 150bhp but after that you need to get a heavier duty clutch. I have a bigger clutch already but just curious to know the limits of the 020 in bhp? Does anybody know? Thanks
