Hi all,
Well after I sold the original money pit I got some withdrawal symptoms even though the car was sold due to a total lack of use!!
I found a baldy crashed, left hand drive shell that needed saving from been cut up in bits.
Now at first glance it's not too bad but like all accident damaged cars the impact has a ripple effect so there's always more to find.
I have a good set of mates who repair accident damaged cars everyday, my brother has a full paint shop and I'm good at the mechanical parts so as a team I'm sure we can save this car.

I needed a new doner for the inner, outer chassis parts with front cross beam.

So after a few evenings I've got the car fully stripped down to a bare shell.
Ive rung a few companies for oven baking and dipping to get the shell back to bare so the welding work can be done, there are a few has repairs to the floor that need attention.
The paintwork prep is shocking, the blue under the white still has its clear coat so the paint can be peeled off like sun burnt skin!

I'm not 100% of the direction of this build as yet.
Ive bought a 225bhp bam engine TT as I'm thinking of transplanting the engine and Quattro system on to the mk1 shell them go big power as time / money allows. Problem is I bought one with a short mot and turns out it's not too bad and two days detailing / cleaning and its come up ok so I'll run it for a few months while shells been worked on.
Or go 350bhp fwd only from the start.
Or third option R32 engine for all that noise and I won't get caught up trying to chase power.

As for the exterior I'm thinking banded 15" steels and factory decals but either
Small bumpers and no wheel arches or
Normal bumpers and wheel arches.
The shells a late 81/82 so should have the bigger bumpers and arches for the purists but the rest of the build going to be far from pure.

Interior.
I have nothing I want to keep and as I changing from left hand drive to right hand drive I've it all to buy.
I think the factory seat value have gone too high for me, I fitted a mk6 golf complete interior on the last build so might do that again or some nice cores vxr buckets and full retrim.

Sorry about all the posts but it's so much harder working from the iPad than my phone, the screen seems to move around more and I can edit the text and photo.
Anyway I hope you all enjoy the journey with me.
There will be a gap now as I' can't get the shell booked in for the oven strip from months.

With my original plan of going with a bam engine and Quattro system off a tt I went out and bought a rough tt.
Problem been it's cleaned up really well, it was left for a long time under trees so the paint was bad, leafs jammed everywhere and a smokers interior that's been shut up 🤮🤮🤮
I've spent a few days cleaning and it's come up really good, took it for a test and only failed on cv boot and rear brake lines so I've done them and been driving it for a few weeks so far.
Now do I cut up what's turned into an ok example of a TT.

I've also been looking at engine bays and the look I'd want to end up with.

We've had this discussion before about wanting to go fast in MK1.
You can spend a fortune upgrading a MK1 to 200+hp or leave the MK1 as nature intended and just buy a Audi TT or a Mini Cooper S to go fast for peanuts
