Well that's the engine just about finished, need some more studs for the rocker cover.
Got a new set of injectors but ordered the wrong sleeves, got some more coming next week.

Looking great! I'm just starting my engine rebuild - can you advise how to remove the injector sleeves? Mine are shot, do they pull out or screw out?
Thanks

Engine looks great given what condition it was in! I like the socket head bolts on the water pump.
Dizzy looks immaculate - is it new?
Keep it up!

The injector sleeves unscrew, i think its 10mm or 12mm allen key.
Yes the dizzy is a new one, the old one was not in good shape.
Not been a bad day today, drivers side inner and outer wheel arch almost complete.
Test fitted the doors and wings
Be glad when its off to the paint shop.

Thanks for all of the positive comments.
A bit more panel fitting today, not looking too bad but some "tweeking" to be done with the wings.
Most of the welding now completed, just the bottom of the front valence where the spoiler fixes and the area where the number plate lights fix.

Just been discussing the front lights, twin or single, this is what came with the car, is there any way of knowing if it was original of aftermarket.

Not sure about which type of grill fitted as standard on your car but I prefer the twin light set up as that’s what makes the top end models different.
The GTi badge is wrong and even in the wrong place on the grill

All Mk1’s from VW were single lamp. Only the Campaign got factory fitted twin ‘driving’ lamps, they have vertical lines in the lenses. The twin lamp models you see were all added by local dealers as an option as were the stereos. These dealer lamps were ‘fog lamps’. Now, bearing in mind you’ll never use the front ‘fog lamps’ in this country unless you want to blind other road users; it’ll be much cooler and stock as single lamp please.

Willing to be corrected but my understanding is that factory twin head lamps (Driver, Campaign, GX) were fogs and most/all dealer and DIY were spot/driving lights. (later cabrios may be different)

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Good quiz, it’s been a while since I owned my Campaign, we can ask the owners of twin lamp headlights here I suppose. Do your factory twin lamps (driver, campaign, lx) come on with the main beam and flash stalk or the the fog lamp switch?
But back to the OP. I think single lamp looks better and ages it better too. It is a 70’s designed car after all. The 80’s were a time for more indulgence and more lamps!

Interesting topic, apart from the great work on the GTI mate. Sunroof or not, single or double lights…
I bought my GTI back in 2014. It had single headlights, Quartet set and a Webasto pop-up sunroof. That car learned me everything about cars. Prior to that I had absolutely no intrest in vehicles other than having one to go from point A to B. Over the years I appreciated its driving characteristics with the 16V KR fitted. Fun fact I later on found out that it was a Pirelli W65 once.
As I am planning a restoration myself I thought a lot about what to change and what to keep. That it originally was a Pirelli is a fun fact but that's not the car I felt in love with. I'll get rid of the Quartet set however I'm planning to keep the KR engine and - yes - also the sunroof. If you ask me the problem w/ aftermarket sunroofs is that a lot of them are so poorly done.
As for the dual lights. VW History Dept. stated in their letter they were " double headlights grille (additional headlights as fog lights) ".
