The guy has spoken to the dvla. They said the records are old as it's an old style log book or something.

I'd still go and pick the car up, but use it as a bargaining point. If its just the bodystyle which is wrong on the V5 then its possible to change it but a bit of hassle - you might need the car looked at by VW then they write a letter, then send it to DVLA who update the records. Or you might be able to change it without needing a formal inspection. The seller should really have done it while it was in his ownership.

Not worth delaying buying it though.

Hmmmmm doesn't look too great. With the hood incomplete and in bits, its going to be a lot of hassle sorting it out. And it appears to be an X reg but quite a lot of modifications to make it look younger (like the bodykit). Its still worth something, I hope you got a good price if you did decide to buy it.

Thanks for uploading g the pics. It might be because I've uploaded them from my Samsung phone. I can see the ones that I've uploaded just everyone else cannot.

Still in two minds to the buy the car. The gentleman who owns the car has sent me a picture of the log book and chassis number they all match the hpi report. Just the saloon thing driving me crazy.

Thanks again guys

Steve what's the engine and interior like?
Have you been under it yet and what sort of money is this guy looking for?

Car is cheap. Has had the 1.8 gti engine fitted. Although non running as engine was removed to be painted the fitted but not fully wired back up.
I'm not paintin a very picture of this car. Haha. But it's a project based thing.

Look you've got more than that in parts so take a flyer in my opinion.
Walk up with £300 and slap it in his hand but keep the other £100 somewhere safe just in case!  😂😱👍

£400 is about right but it depends on what you're after. If you want a GTI and don't mind the fact that at the moment its not useable on the road, and there's an amount of work ahead of you before it is, then fine.

But for not much more, there's non-GTI cabbys out there which might be a bit tatty (but restorable for not much different to the one in the pics) but are immediately useable because they have things like wipers still attached, the hood might be tatty but is complete and reasonably together (will probably leak a bit though, unless you're lucky - they always do!) etc etc

Beware if you want the performance of a GTI, its much simpler buying a GTI now rather than settling for a non-GTI then trying to upgrade it. There's a lot of differences so its not really worth trying to upgrade them, unless you choose to upgrade to well beyond a GTI performance level anyway.

Although £400 is cheap you could still spend a lot of money getting it sorted. Personally, I'd rather spend more on a more sorted car that you can just jump in and drive.

On the HPI front, do you mean you've got a pic of the V5 only? Need to make sure that the chassis numbers on the car match the V5 too.
