- Checked al speeds at the resistor with a wire straight from the battery - OK
- Checked the switch from the + feed to all 3 speed connectors when switching speeds with an Ohm-meter - OK
- Checked if 12V comes to the + of the switch - NOT OK
- Checked fuse # 14 - OK
- Checked the red/black wire from the fuse box to the + of the switch with an Ohm-meter - OK
- Removed relay # 18 and bridged the 2 big connectors number 30 and 87 with a wire - everything functions again - all 3 speeds - OK
- Checked the relay with a power source to check it engages - NOT OK
Need a new # 18 relay !
Give away were the non-function wipers - these are power fed by the same relay
Installed the new light cluster and the new correct front

Changed the oil filter for good measure
Put in 20W50 mineral oil
Changed the gearbox oil as well
Next on the list is the removal of that centre console with those gauges
I don't like the look and those gauges are a distraction
Bought me a lot of cleaning products to clean the car for the first time

Changed the servo pump V-belt and cleaned the exterior of the car with various car care products - vacuum cleaned the roof as well
Some changes I still have planned:
- Have the LHS side cable of the roof fixed
- Have an OG rear trunk lid resprayed and put in all badges with a bright chrome badge refurbish set
- Remove the center console and put in a smaller type without those gauges
- Install the Rhapsody radio
- Install a better Gas/Petrol swith
- Install a better dash surround panel
- Sort out all the wiring after removing the center console - radio
- Put in a better full carped WITH sound deadening underneath
- Install those headrest inserts
That's about it for the moment - drive it a lot and enjoy an already too expensive car in relation to its value
Oh the hobby
Enjoy the photos of a cleaned car

Removed all acccess wiring - the center console with gauges and the aftermarket Pioneer radio
The cigarette lighter wiring was cut up / butchered but I had a nice piece of loom I got with a complete dash I bought recently
Installed a repro cigarette lighter as well
Installed a good used dash trim panel - one without oblonged / untracked fixing holes
Installed a small type of gear shifter cover - straight swap since all 3 holes were already there
And finally the Rhapsody radio went in without a hassle - used the OG plugs and an antenna adaptor
This radio doesn't need a metal installation box - slides straight in with a rubber plug at the back which plugs in firm at the metal bracket at the back of the dash
Still need a constant + feed to memorize the radio code and need to check my manual to change the radio backlight from red to green
Some photos of the actual result - still need a good interior cleaning though

Found a water leak which comes through the window seal in the RHS corner - will need to address that
It shifts nice but can be even better
I installed same-as-the-bushings material washers where the 2 red circles are since I had a lot of upside-downside play
The green circled bushing seats better upside down with the wheighted shift rod
Where can I buy the blue circled pieces ?

Drove the car to work everyday - drives lovely !
The carpet is ready to be installed
Bought the underlayment pieces from VWHeritage - good quality as expected
Also bought a NOS accelerator pedal stop with NOS collar
Since the repro cigarette lighter doesn't light up even with the blue wire getting its current I bought a NOS one too
I made my own badge refurbish sets for the 4 rear badges
Do have some spares which I can sell
I am going to use a set in bright chrome but made some brushed alu ones too

Turned out that the gear shifter relay - the piece with rubber ball was starting to split
Ordered an OG one from a Golf 1 specialist in The Netherlands

The one on the car has a cleaned one with a chrome script from an aircooled type 3 sticked to it
Can't wait to put those refurbished badges on the car
Bought NOS clipses in the past to fit the badges into
