And I've been getting stuck into building the new engine and tranny.
To be fair this has consisted more of pacing up and down the garage and looking at things than actual progress for while. Nothing seems straight forward.
But I'm launching in anyway. How hard can it be right?
On of the first major hurdles was drilling and tapping the block for the turbo oil return. I don't know about all of you but I've never drilled a 14.5mm hole in an engine block before so I wanted to make sure I did that right. I think I over thought it, but it's done now.
Next up is porting he inlet manifold for the Audi 200 Turbo throttle body.  2018-03-17 18.40.32.jpg 2018-03-17 18.51.42.jpg 2018-03-17 18.53.41.jpg 2018-03-17 18.58.05.jpg 2018-03-17 19.41.10.jpg 2018-03-17 19.49.34.jpg 2018-03-18 14.28.37.jpg

More from the 'how hard can it be' files.

Tackled porting out the inlet manifold for the larger throttle body.
As you can see, quite a bit of material to come out and around the primary there is not enough thickness in the manifold to open a great deal.  2018-03-19 19.41.45.jpg 2018-03-21 13.54.07.jpg 2018-03-21 14.18.06 HDR.jpg 2018-03-21 14.18.12-1.jpg

That all just needs a bit of sanding now to tidy up and we'll call it done.
While I was there I matched up the head end as well and found there was a bit to take out there too.

Nice work - it's amazing how out the mating holes can be. Should make a good difference.

The stance looks good - how many times have you lost your spoiler though?

Cheers. I normally have it at the halfway sensible height in this photo. In a few of those pics were it's super low that was just for a show. It was an aircooled show so I had to wind it down a bit to keep up with those guys.

I have not yet lost the spoiler, but I've definitely come close. 2018-03-14 18.41.27-1.jpg

Next up, building a hybrid distributor:

DX main body (middle), with 2E drive gear (bottom) with GX(top) Vaccum advance & retard. The Vaccum advance/retard had a stopper on it, I've drilled that out to get a few extra degrees of retard under boost, I'll port out the DX housing a little too to allow more travel. Fingers crossed this old school fix will work for up to around 12 PSI.   2018-04-08 18.58.51.jpg

Well, I finally got there.
The very eagle eyed among you might spot the mistake I'd made in the photo, but fortunately I realised before the Loctite retaining compound had fully set.  :$
(I hadn't noticed that the spacer ring for the distributor base to fit the new block won't fit over the drive gear)
