Sportline Cabriolet

Post

Ok guys, I've had a couple of people asking about the Sportline and a couple of offers to put a value on it for me… So here goes!

It was registered on 23.03.92. It is red! It has a stereo CD, thatcham 1 immobiliser fitted and I'm told the electric windows aren't standard fitment on the Sportline. Other than that it is completely standard.

It comes with the original Service book with stamps at
14.12.94 12198 miles
26.10.95 17546 miles
20.10.96 20000 miles
16.03.98 30629 miles
20.03.99 34554 miles
04.03.00 37573 miles
23.03.01 41232 miles
09.03.02 45518 miles
19.03.03 47888 miles
10.03.04 49851 miles
03.03.05 51093 miles
13.03.06 53347 miles

Also a huge pile of receipts for everything from services to tyres and replacement windscreen in 2011 but most importantly it is including:

18.06.10 61651 miles -cambelt

It has all of the below MOT certificates to back up the mileage:
24.03.95 14110 miles
16.03.96 18562 miles
15.03.97 22153 miles
17.03.98 30632 miles
20.03.99 34554 miles
04.03.00 37573 miles
23.03.01 41232 miles
15.03.02 45590 miles
19.03.03 47888 miles
10.03.04 49846 miles
03.03.05 51088 miles
13.03.06 53342 miles
21.03.07 56713 miles
22.04.08 59146 miles
16.10.09 60139 miles
05.10.10 63662 miles
24.04.12 68840 miles
05.07.13 69479 miles
10.06.14 69789 miles

9 former keepers and it's a genuine Sportline as listed on logbook.

It has just clicked over to 70000 miles and has been described as one of the lowest mileage Sportlines remaining.

No sign of any accident damage (ie boot floor, slam panel etc all look A1)

Bad bits…
1. Roof has some cracking on the front fold and needs replacing albeit it is water tight.
2. Paint polishes up well, but it's 23 years old! It needs rubbing back and spraying to make it perfect. There is some small corrosion under the rear off side quarter trim strip (about 10cm in length) and a small patch about 4cm under the windscreen rubber. There are scratches/blemishes to the bumper corners and the rear wheel arches. I've been quoted £500 to spray the car if I present it stripped and rubbed down.
3. Clutch is stiff. It's had the bulkhead strengthened (with receipt to confirm) but I think the clutch needs replacing.
4. The drivers seat has a hole in the base. The hole needs repairing and I've managed to buy a replacement Sportline Recaro seat material and been quoted £60 to have it professionally stitched.
5. Wheels are a little kerbed but are an easy fix.
6. Dash temp display working intermittently but the fan still works when the engine is up to temperature.

Other than that the car is excellent. Good tyres, looks like a stainless exhaust, fuel filler has been replaced etc etc. oh and the MFA display works as it should with the display A1!

I reckon £1000 spent would get this car to show standard. Coupled with the low mileage and great pile of history, what's it worth??

Photos on this thread already for your perusal!

Thanks for the info Rfd

It's a tough one to judge as I think you wont get what the car is genuinely worth with those items needing doing. I guess someone would want to buy with most of those items already done.

To give you some gauge, my SL sold for £5k last August. It was mostly original paint - did need paint to NSF wing top purely where it had been polished through, really had no rust and all the suspension and running gear was fairly fresh and new. No rips to interior etc and the hood was good.

Based on what I've seen them sell for I'm thinking you'd be at £2-2.5k as top end for the right buyer, with all the above work outstanding, but you may wait for that. Without seeing in the flesh it sounds like it's got potential to be worth so much more.

How about getting the work done to maximise your price and when it's all minty-fresh it may help your Corrado decision??!!

Hope that helps?

Cheers

Cheers Andy,

I reckon you wouldn't be quite so harsh if you saw it in the flesh

I've got a bit of experienced help with the car so based on your advice and that of massbad69 I think I should keep hold and do the work myself once I've moved house next month. It won't take a lot of money to put all of the niggles right and then it sounds like I will be able to see the most money back on my car.

Of course if a good offer or a bargain Corrado come up in the meantime, then who knows what I may do!!

Cheers

LOL you may be right!

Thing is, you do get knocked on price hard when certain things are not finished and if you do the above works you can ask top dollar I'm sure as in the photos it does look a stunning car! Should be easy to sell then too ;)

I do have a bargain Rado but it's a valver not a VR  :(

Just a quick update… I decided to keep hold of my car and spend some time getting it up to A1 condition.

First things first, I've given it a good service, oils, filter, plugs, air filter, fuel filter etc.

Next I intend to send the drivers seat and the replacement cloth off for a professional repair…

And I'm planning to prep and then get the car sprayed at the end of the sunny season!

Happy days!

Seats booked in to Pipers trimmers for the repairs to be done.

Anyone who is allowed to work on the Haynes motor museum cars and has just completed a DB5 is just about good enough for my Mk1

Quick update…

The damaged drivers seat cloth has been replaced so that's that job done! I though I'd give the seats a clean with one of those Vax upholstery cleaners… and I couldn't believe the difference it made! The water I poured away afterwards was the colour of hot chocolate  :o

It's really just the hood and paint left now to make it really special, but I'm enjoying driving it in this weather too much to think about that now!
