Yes there are quite a few left although not so many on the roads these days - no they don't really rot as the weather is dry here and don't have too much rust either which is great!  Make for easy projects :)

Example:
This used to be our front yard/driveway!  Now it has mk4s and mk5s and transporters :(Although it does have a mk2 turbo diesel which is cool
