Engine Clean

We'll the weathers stopped play with the engine clean…

Sent some parts to be powder coated and some new parts arrived
Still could do with any help on if I have this the correct way please  


So thought I would go in the garage and start cleaning some bits

Al the help on here's been great and sorry if I am bugging people

If anyone knows of any owners manuals for my car that are out there to buy or download it would help allot …..  

How did you clean the fan metal casing

Also how does the oil cooler come off do I need to drain the oil first

Used 120 then 180 the 320 sandpaper … Came up a treat .. Not taken the oil cooler off  wouldn't even know what it looked like  still taking baby steps me mate 

So Far Cant See Much I Have started Stripping More Off Rad, Water Pump, Washer Bottle

 

Can you take a closer picture of that plastic cover on the rocker top so I can see which way it's fitted please

The rocker cover shield looks to be on correctly

Anyone know the talk setting for the rocker cover nuts??


 Also any help on finding a Golf  GTI Cabby Manual 89 in PDF or book would be great

 Anyone got any ideas on the correct position of these sickers ?

First one on underside of bonnet

Second on radiator fan cowling.

Third ?

Third one is only relevant to the early DX with solid tappets and not hydraulic as fitted to yours so doesn't need fitting. (Goes on the rocker cover)

Well I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew here…

  Went to Remove the plate behind the cam belt to get coated and ended up having to strip all the fan belt wheels…. Had to remove a nut from the water pump housing and snapped the bolt

   Enjoying doing this but due to the lack of know how finding it tough  

 Will I one need a replacement part or will I be able to get someone to get it out ?

 We'll after my crash course in engine cleaning I have started putting things back together , I have to say I have never had this many chunks out of my knuckles  

  Got the parts back from the powder Coater and they look great

 Should get the rest finished tonight,Then it's time to turn the key to see if she will start !!!
