MK1 Golf Community Sprint deterring youth offending - ENDED! :(

Post

ok, little update…..i have taken on two kids: Josh and Levi.

Both live near to my unit and i have spoken to their parents.

Josh, goes to part time school as he was expelled from normal school. Normally found wandering the street on his days off smoking weed.

Levi, suffers from learning difficulties. I have worked with Levi before, if he is physically shown what to do, he can do it. He requires firm guidance and explanations of how things work, for him to "get it".

Yesterday's Lesson: how to flat a car down, how to mix & apply filler.

Had to explain the following:
1.Why you have to scratch the surface for paint to stick,
2. Why filler should be applied to metal/clean surfaces
3. Why preparation is important,
4. How the grit of paper works (that was a hard one…had to draw a diagram)
5. Spoke about what rust is and how its caused,
6. And finally explained why VW / AUDI is the best CAR COMPANY IN THE WORLD!!!!

Got a metering head/airbox which came on a car I haven't seen run, also have a center consul, came on same car , but the holes for the gauges have been cut out, just needs a blanking plate.  Can happily have both items if required, but I am in south Cambridgeshire.

What I tend to do these days if selling a larger/heavier item is get the buyer to arrange own courier for best price. Would that be acceptable to you? Can wrap items into one package.

Hi all,

Not been down the garage for a few days, as i have been ill, but i have manage to speak to a reputable paint supplying company, that love the idea and have given me "big discounts" on all bodywork supplies i need……(every little helps).

I have also a meeting today with a major bodywork specialist company in birmingham regarding apprenticeships for Josh and Levi - finger crossed.

cheers bob

UPDATE :(

Due to both youths getting into trouble with the police lately….the build has come to an end…..( not going into detail)

To all that have donated parts, please PM for returning the parts back or an payment agreement out of my pocket.

This has put me in the poo as swallowtail is coming home and this is stuck in my garage. I have to decide to finish it / break it or sell it.

Feel really deflated and let down :'(
 :(  :P

Sorry to hear the news, well done for trying though, it was a great idea and at least you put yourself out to help make a difference.

Fair play for giving this a good go bob,  would have been one of the most interesting build threads on here.

Hey Bob,

Sad to hear this didn't work out so well. At least you gave  it a shot. I could be interested in the project as a whole to get it off your hands.

Really sorry to hear this news mate.

You put so much into this project to try and keep the boys out of trouble, but unfortunately, some kids just can't stay away from it.

Any chance of finding a couple more trainees?
Any local youth centres that might be willing to help "Manage" the little blighters and possibly help with some of your expenses, particularly when tools go missing?
