And tintop owners are… Best not start a war… Thoroughly nice people who bought an entire mk1 not just most of one. :ninja:

i was sat in traffic on the M3 a while ago, saw a lambo in the inside lane.. my lane was moving slightly quicker - 3mph  as opposed to 2 - i turned around to grab an eyeful of the lambo only to find the driver staring at the mk1 grinning….    he gave me the thumbs up as i crawled on by!

was kinda cool i thought!! - made me smile anyway!!!

Not all of them………..

Anyway it was the only way I could afford the mid life crisis of a soft top sports car. (Well it's half way there!)

Should have offered him a swap mate! Think I've seen that bloke myself. Was it orange by any chance?

I have been putting shelves up in my garage lately so pulled the car out onto my driveway.Been doing this on 2 weekends when Bradford City football were playing so I got all the local fans going past my car.  Its quite entertaining to watch many of them looking back at my car! I had a policeman come into my garage to say he was admiring my car. We chatted for more than an hour. He was moving  away from his duties by chatting that long! and he is going to give me some chrome wheel nuts he has at his dads garage!

Get's loads of attention and flashes but gotta be on the way back from Edition 38 last year, parked up on the Bournemouth chain ferry me and the missus noticed an old guy looking round the Golf, so wound the window down got chatting and he explained how he owned a Lhasa green GTI a few years back,  loved ours and said he still had some nos parts kicking around at home and would I be interested, exchanged numbers and about a month later he turned up, had a good look round the golf & long chat about mk1's and left me with a genuine oil filter, cambelt, performance air filter and a few other bits, wouldn't take any money either, top bloke

Fuel ups are rarely a solitary event, mostly compliments about the car then discussion about their own 'classic '. Certainly Brightens my day.

One hot morning last August I was driving my Cabrio around the 'Inner Ring' of Vienna top down.
It was around 8:00am and was already +22 degrees, I was just coming to a stop at one of the many traffic lights when what pulls up beside me but a '2013 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Cabrio'. It was new out of the box, still had the weld dimples on the tires.

Two Guys in their 50's, smoking real cuban cigars and they're me staring across but I'm no higher than the wheel arches of the Merc.
So, their are looking at mine and I'm at theirs. I thought to myself, one wheel and tire would cost about the same as my whole car.
Anyhow the lights changed (it's rush hour) so we slowly move on to the next set and eyeballing each others pride and joy.

At the third set of lights, the driver of the Merc lean't out his window, looked down on me and said.
"That's the best Mk1 Cabrio I have ever seen, congratulations!"
I replied, "Well thank you and yours is not bad either". With that all three of us bust into laughter!

Good job I had the top down because I don't think I would have got my swollen head out with just the door open.
Have had a number of compliments but that made feel real good!  :ocf_emoticons__clap:

Everyone else has cool stories.  :( I've only had a note left on the screen Asking if I'd sell it and a thumbs up from a stripped out road racer mk1 escort. Fuel stops are quiet for me :(

Ok, well I have another.

I was shopping last summer and came back to my car to find an old Gentleman looking at mine.
As I walked up to the car he said very nicely hello and the fact he really thought mine looked great.
He pointed to his, also a white MK6 5dr and said that's mine, to which I replied "wow, very nice indeed".
He then asked to look around mind to which I said of course and as he was having a closer look he said to me and no joke.
"This is the new MK6 Cabrio then, I like it"
To which I replied, no sorry but this is a MK1 from 1990.  :o
He said are you sure and I said yes and then spoke to him for a minute or two and had to ask the following.
I said "do you normally wear glasses or contact lens?" to which he replied "oh no my eye is perfect"!

At that point I bid my fair wells trying not to wee myself laughing!
True and honest account of that encounter!

Thumbs up a plenty,Stares from old ladies and young kids.Nearly always gets compliments when i'm filling up…Offers galore to sell, even name your price ones, but it's not going anywhere. Had a thumbs up from Jamiroquai  and had James Whale (look him up) stop for a chat while walking past…Best one was being stopped by 2 policemen and being commandeered to take them to a call, and when one asked if the radio was working, I said "sure it is " and turned it up but felt an idiot when the question was for his colleague about his hand held !!!….:lol:Had a funny one when the Olyimpics was on…Was driving down Bond Street in the heart of London and group  were waking towards me and one of the girls stood there with her mouth open and in shock pointed and I could read her lips saying "Mark 1":lol:Its all about the Mk1 baby !!!!  Roll on the spring/summer
