Strong plans Neil, i assume the strip n dip isn't cheap :)
no not as bad as i thought tbh,
went and spoke to a local restoration place that ive heard good things about, and they use the strippers for there hillman imp and mk1 escort builds , and i had a look at 3 shell that had been done last year, and just sat there as they came from coating and  still not a patch of rust on them, so its off for any welding that i find done , then off to the strippers ,
all worth it in the long run

Sounds really good, i have a rust fear haha, i don't mind chopping it out andwelding new sections in but get un naturally paranoid it will come back

Your way should take care of that and 'future proof' the old girl

lol i know the feeling,
i thought about blasting and asked the bloke, he advised going down the stripping route instead, , once he,d put my mind at rest about horror stories you hear, and he showed my the finished shells , my mind was made up

well this afternoon i thought id split the engine and box

so got the lump on the crane and got the gearbox off, , took the drive shafts off that had been chopped with an angle grinder
and then started to gunk it with foam gunk and a brush, got a fair bit off but its got a long way to go yet

cheers rich well cracked on with the gearbox cleaning once i woke up this afty , if your going to do this dont waste your money on the foam gunk, its pants,, i bought both, looking at it this afty once yesterdays wash had dried it had only scratched the surface tbh so the liquid gunk came out , and as soon at i put it on you could see the bulk coming off it before i even started agitating it with the brush, then pressure washed it, repeated the process 4 times, ( about 40 mins in total ) then left it to dry while i drove to halfrauds for the paint ,which was a 20 min journey only to get there and realise id left my wallet at home like a mong :lol:so thats a job for 2moro now, may start splitting the rest of the engine down too heres the end result
