MK1 Golf 1.1 (1.8) part restoration

Post

After my 18th birthday I decided to get some balls and buy myself a MK1

So, after the long wait of having enough money, I've finally got myself a 1983 tintop MK1 golf.

Thanks to the old man, I got a decent amount of money to buy myself a fairly decent project with some money to help it get started.

So in November 2013 I agreed to drive 230 miles down south to pick myself up my new car, the journey back was one to remember, having to jump start it with my mate so many times I lost count! (Cheers Pritchy). I finally got home at 5 the next morning with a huge grin on my face.

So, here's a few photos from when I got it to now (not much has changed!)

And here's how it looks on my drive :D photo ECAE0481-7CE6-4049-8B37-0397A132C28D_zpsc8hfxmov.jpg

Apart from a clean and starting it up it hasn't had anything until this month.

So I took it to Deutsche Doktors in Stoke (fairly local) and got the guys to have a quick look at it, all I was thinking of was a quick spray and job done…

Well I came out spending about £3000 with pretty much every patch of rust, filler and rot being replaced.

I've also bought myself quite a few little goodies, including;
-Rota Grid V's - 15"x8J
-Bucket Seats
-OMP Steering Wheel
-Sparco 4 point harnesses
-Aluminium gear knob
-Leather gear gaitor
-Handbrake handle (didn't have one!) and a nice stitched leather cover
- Dash Vent kit
-Aluminium Fuel filler cap
-South African rear tail lights (thanks Icky)
-New battery
-New alternator

And a few other bits and bobs to make it look a bit less… sh!t:thumbs:Last Saturday it got picked up and they are currently working on it, I will be going to see it on Tuesday so will take some photos and give you all an update.

Oh, it's registered as a 1.1 too which is good for insurance :$Cheers,

Dave

Looks good but have you just admitted to having a 1.8 passed of as a 1.1, so not actually insured, apologies if I have misunderstood.

Nice car but agree with above, probs shouldn't be admitting that on a public forum O_o

It's all being declared dont worry, thanks to my parents  :P

But I decided it wouldnt be worth risking it if I get pulled over, all other mods are declared too. How I hate insurance

Cheers guys!

The car was located in Hampshire when I bought it so maybe you recognise it from there?  O_o

Anyway, went to drop off a few more bits on Tuesday and took some more photos; they had just finished prepping it and were painting it as I left! Not been since so can't wait to see what it'll look like when it's done.

Also bought a few more things;
Debadged grill
Mats
Rear strut brace
Anti Roll bar kit
Crappy set of wheels for driving near me (too many potholes!)
Waistline trim
GTI arches

So hopefully I'll get some pictures of it painted, and you'll see in the next few photos the colour

These are the wheels that I might be getting, would you say they're worth £160 for the 4 without tyres?
