The plans simple :) take the shell fit engine in the boot done ;)

It's always good to get another opinion

By the time I'm ready for interior my work should be doing carbon fibre so could see a carbon mk1 dash :D

Great fab work on the cage. Getting tubes to fit together well can be very hard, but your making it look easy

Cheers Matt

I'm currently at the 12 hour mark in the cage

If I was mig welding the cage I reckon I could of shaved a good few hours off
But I'm tig welding it all so flush fit or very minimal gaps mean a lot of tweaking and that's what's taken time

Roll hoop forward I've done the hard bits so next weekend I should get another good bit done

Yep, mig welding would have been loads quicker. That said, the tig welds will look great when there done

Evening all

Bit more progress this weekend

After some trapped fingers and many swears I managed to remove the cage in 1 piece
This is the only picture of the removal lol but it was a very precise procedure

With the cage out I had access to all the joints and able to fully weld it

Couple of hours and it was welded

Nice simple roof cross

And a quick mock up of head clearance with me helmet
Only had 100mm box but the cage sits 130mm higher then the seat base so will have a good 70-80mm head clearance if I ever decide to track or drag it, my old fiat coupe 20vt was horrendous for head clearance with the same helmet I had to drive with a bent neck not good :shake:

Treat myself to a long acre 17" mirror

Next job remove all the sound deadening
Learnt the easiest way after doing my track clio gas axe and a scraper

And all the removed sound deadener must of been a good 8 kilos worth

And back across into other workshop parked up with the dimma

Made good progress on dimma aswell nearly a full hoop forward cage done along with the work on the golf

Next up is remove the worst of the under seal in the archs and I have a mate who is going to sand blast everything but the exterior panels

Seeing some of his previous work on rally cars and my work mates dimma it's going to save me a lot of time I've put 3 weeks into what I've removed upto now and there's areas I can't reach with the knot wheel he will have the lot done in a few hours :)

Cheers bud

The 1st pic of this weekends progress kinda shows it slid back and dropped

It's basically just keep dropping it on the back and pushing back until  the hoops rotated 90 * and flat on floor and then lift body over cage:thumbs:
